After leaving a trail ride with about 20 jeeps, (lots of stopping and waiting) I start hearing this noise. Does it sound like the clutch fan or water pump to you guys?

I assume your oil level is good. Suggest check simple things first, cracked exhaust, alternator bearings, etc. before diving into the hard stuff.

oil level is perfect, I removed the serp belt and the noise is still there. I dont see any cracks in the exhaust but my view is really limited. Is there another way to check for cracks? Anything else I should check?

Went ahead and took it to the shop, it appears the noise is a rod knocking. $4500 to drop in a reman motor.
Is that a good deal?
