On a logging road in four wheel high the transfer case jumped out of gear. It made grinding sounds (gears) anywhere I put it. I got it only in four wheel high and headed home forty miles away. I could smell transmission fluid all the way home. I changed the fluid one month ago and it had water in it. I don't know the history of the Jeep. I guess it's time for a used one. 1998 4L auto sport. I want to make sure I get the right one. Is it a 23 spline long shaft? Ebay talks about a Sport and a Sport Sport. Can you guys tell me exactly what I need. Thanks as always.

Yes you need the long input shaft length version configured for your 32RH. That is so it can seal the 32RH's output shaft seal which is further away than the AX-15's output shaft seal is.
X2 to what Jerry said. You can swap out the input shaft if necessary, but it's easier to buy one with the correct input shaft already in it.

It shouldn't matter to the OP, but to anyone else looking for this info - be careful with that Novak guide. At least regarding the AX15 it has some bad info, and I'm not sure about the AW4. The correct info is available elsewhere on the web but the best way to know, if your swapping a case, is to just check which one you have already.
