Why does the inside of the hood look like this?

Just in case someone else comes along with questions or wanting pictures of the hood insulation or the under carpet padding.
Here's the full hood insulation on my '05 Unlimited:
And the padding under the carpet (cargo area):
I guess there are adhesive materials I could try and apply to the back side of the OEM insulation to reinforce it, but I've not picked one yet.
Ultimately if I really wanted to replace the insulation and do it right I'd just get something like DEI's Underhood Insulation. It has adhesive backing but the face looks more like the original insulation material, not reflective foil.

Thanks. It’s not hard to keep it that way if you stay ahead of it & don’t let it get out of hand. My secret is to mist everything under the hood with Formula 303 Aerospace Protectant after everything is cleaned, but Armor All or something similar would work fine.
