Windshield Hinge Bolts

I'm looking to swap out my windshield hinges and lower door hinges as they have rust. I got a set on eBay that match my paint and are in great condition.

I know the torx bolts are a nightmare to get out. My jeep is 1999 and I can tell that they have never been removed. Do I even attempt to do it. I'm worried I'm going to snap or strip these bolts. What's the likelihood of me screwing this up?

I might just have a shop do it. Does anyone know anyone in the MA North Shore area that can take these out?

I just removed three windshields at the hinges. ALL bolts came out EASY using a Milwaukee M18 1/2" drive impact. I think the shock is the best thing for them. Even if you break one off, drill the rest out. I have extra bolts, hinges, and brackets if needed. If you use heat, worry about the paint. Your east coast rust might concern me though...

I believe the key to the removal when using heat; is to apply substantial heat to the allen bit socket, insert into the screw and leave for a while; then use the Impact driver to shock them loose.

I had to take a couple of those torx bolts out to install mirrors and they were so seized from time that I sheared off the T40 bit when I tried a breaker bar (glad the bolt didn't give first). I was worried about the paint, but since mine is black and not exactly a beauty queen I hit it with my propane torch for about 30-40 seconds. The bolts came right out with my impact after that (probably could have done it without). No damage to the paint. I would be a little more concerned with the heat melting the windshield gasket though and would probably put something like a wet rag and/or aluminum there to shield it.

I just did this recently on my windshield and tailgate. Heat worked on some, the rest I just drilled the heads off and then used vise grips to get the rest. I now have all new windshield, mirror, and tailgate hinge bolts. My one suggestion would be to use quality hardware. I bought run of the mill bolts and they are already showing paint degradation and I'm sure rust will follow.

I used a 2' breaker bar with torx bit and they easily came out. I then "upgraded" the bolts and snapped one off.
