Windshield hinge removal

For those of you that have changed your windshield hinges what did you do to keep the backing bracket from falling down? I have some 5/8 rods and I’m thinking of putting in the bolt holes, but not sure which ones- any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

First, is the backing plate going to fall out?
On my YJ nothing fell out.

And I'm trying to understand ... why ? do it ?

My understanding is the backing plate could fall out
