Wiring center console subwoofer add-on

I have a 2004 X that didn't come with a center console subwoofer. I really just wanted an armrest and the one I found had the subwoofer in it, do I figured why not connect it to the system. Speaker is shot, but that's not the issue, as there is a ton of info out there on how to replace it.

Because the some woofer was not a feature originally included on my Jeep, it did not come wired for it. The console I purchased has the wiring harness coming out by the cupholders as it should, but there is no corresponding harness coming from the stereo/speaker wires. The stereo is a recently added Alpine. Nothing fancy but only a couple years old.

I'm having a difficult time figuring out what wiring harness I need and how to add it with a line out converter. The internet says that's what I need to do, add a line out converter, but I can't find anything that specifically says it is for Jeep TJ subwoofer. And I have no idea how to wire this in.

in summary, I need guidance towards the correct harness and how to wire it in. Any advice would be appreciated. I'm a very visual person so pictures would be super extra appreciated. Thanks y'all!

The factory wiring harness goes to an amplifier that is also housed in the center console. It has several wires going to it including a positive and negative for each speaker. In the picture below you can get an idea of how many wires go to it. I used the factory amp as my Jeep came with that. Since yours did not come with factory subwoofer I would really recommend going a different route than the factory approach. I would get a separate subwoofer amplifier and wire that to the line out of the radio (you do not mention if you have factory or OEM radio but most factory have been replaced by now) then to the sub. A common place to mount an amp is under the steering column.

Thank you for the reply. I think you are right. I was on the fence about a full audio upgrade, but it makes more sense than piecemealing it. I did upgrade the stereo, so putting in a new amp with the subwoofer should be fairly straightforward. I can probably wait to replace the dash and sound bar speakers if I want to, you think?

You certainly can wait to replace dash and sound bar speakers but you will be missing out on some great sound until you do.

a good small 5 channel amp is what you really need. one channel should be for your sub in the console and the other channels will be for your dash and speaker bar/pods.
