Would you add sound deadening to an Armorlite installation?

For those that have added Armorlite flooring to their Jeeps. Did you add any sound deadening and would you recommend it? I've seen a few Youtube videos showing it installed at the same time but, is it really needed. If you wanted to change anything wouldn't it be a sticky mess to try and remove?

I'm not convinced that the Armorlite system would work with anything applied underneath it, it likely wouldn't fit properly in the tub. As well, I believe the Armorlite material incorporates sound and thermal insulation in its design already.

I removed a poorly done sound deadening job from a PO and it’s something I’d rather not do ever again lol. Posted some photos here:

I did install armorlite after repainting the tub and we are happy with it over the bare tub. It’s definitely a tight fit, especially around the driver footwell and center console.

I am purchasing the whole Kit. The front's appear to have backing but the Tub area doesn't look like it has any backing on it.

@joneill Does the armorlite by itself stop heat getting through the center/tunnel area? My Wife complains about the current carpet on the passenger side being hot next to the console/tunnel area on long trips. Probably right about where the catalytic converter sits I bet. thanks for the link above, although that looked like the incorrect product on your tub. What a mess though. definitely, has be second guessing it.

The normal sound deadening is only around 2mil thick i believe. The Armorlite should still fit and there are several TJ installations showing they also added it. I'm just thinking while I'm in there and all the seats and console are out.

Lots of others have just added the sound deadening under carpet. Hopefully, no one else has had any product bleeding through on their carpets?

I agree in my case it looked like someone used the wrong material but it was such a pain no sticky stuff is ever going back in haha.

Yes the front armorlite is thicker than the back; we did the full kit as well. I honestly don’t notice any heat from the tunnel - the ripped shifter boot was the biggest source of nuisance heat for me. Once I replaced the boot I didn’t notice anything so for me the armorlite by itself is effective.

That said I live in central Texas so the air blowing through the cabin is probably as hot as the tunnel

That price tag is high (we picked it up on a Memorial Day sale) but it looks great and cleans up easily. We are happy with the purchase and have no regrets.

Yep, same here. My carpet is original from 98 and it's trashed.

it is high but, quality looks really good. All the people on the JT site are raving about it. I did use the Jeep Gladiator 10% discount code. It took off 112$ One of the reasons I went ahead and hit the purchase button this evening.

I've done pretty extensive sound deadening but still have my factory carpet. With 80mil butyl and 157mil (4mm) closed cell, it made a huge difference in road noise coming up through the tub. I don't plan to do mass loaded vinyl.

The thin closed cell is going to give you more thermal advantage than butyl and probably cuts more overall road noise. I cannot imagine the armorlite fit would be so tight you cannot fit 4mm of foam under it. Strategically placed butyl has a big impact on damping panels without going overboard with weight. Just tap around as you're figuring it out.

Get some egg crate foam also.

This is mostly heat from the engine and transmission themselves. There's no heat shielding between them and the tunnel. Not a great view, but a photo looking up at the driver's side from when I was sliding the manual back onto it's pins looking up into the tunnel. Passenger side is the same.

The cat is pretty squarely under the front passenger's seat and the muffler sits just under the footpan of the rear passenger. There is heat shielding there. Not great, but it's functional.

Maybe, but good carpet will run about the same. For reference, I ran a comparison between a full set of Armorlite vs. the best ACC full carpet set I could put together back in September 2025:

Not much in it if you're buying better material. Mostly down to personal preference for use and appearance at this point.

I should clarify I was not suggesting armorlite isn’t worth the money - just commenting folks might get initial shock but we think it’s well worth it. We eventually installed it in both our LJs.

Completely understood. My intent was to defend the cost of it.

I thought the Armorlite seemed expensive on first sight, but I really liked the idea of it and the product appeared to be thoughtful in design and well made. That's when I decided to see what a really good carpet set would run...and was quite surprised when the difference was only $5.55. In any other vehicle and maybe this one if my usage was more of a people carrier, the carpet, but I am leaning heavily towards the Armorlite as a future update.

There's a special feeling that comes from owning a vehicle with drain plugs in its floorpan.

That would indeed be a snug fit.

I see the liner is split down the centerline in the front passenger area which would give enough play for some thin closed cell over the transmission tunnel and probably under the floor too. I would test fit first.

Guessing as I haven't seen one of these liners in person. I think it would act alot like a MLV over closed cell, decoupling it from the tub. Should be very quiet setup that way.
