Working on adding AC to the 98,,,, jeepair makes it seem so simple,,step one, remove radiator, broken bolts, hoses that wont come off etc,,2 hours later, radiator out. Well, that's another thread I guess.
Anyway while I have things torn down, would you change this out?
How hard is it to change the fan and clutch,,,probably the original pair.

The fan and clutch? Spin it with the belt on while tightened and see if you can feel some resistance. A good fan clutch will not allow the blades to free spin. Mine is actually pretty stiff, doesn’t spin at all but can still rotate by hand with resistance.

I have replaced mine as well as those in a few friends Jeeps. In one case it dramatically improved cooling. They are cheap and easy to replace. Consider it maintenance. Go for it. I seem to recall a 36mm open end wrench is all you need for clutch removal. The better question is: Why wouldn't you replace it? It is only 40 bucks. All mechanical parts have a lifespan, a 40 dollar investment could save you a head gasket.
