I’m about to get 4 new tires for my 2000 TJ sport.

Stock suspension, 3.07 gearing and 16” Moab wheels.

I live at 6000 feet and go up the mountain at least once if not twice a week so my 3.07 gearing plays a bigger role then if I were a flat lander.

Is the Wrangler Duratrac RT 245/75R16
the best choice?

In my opinion you would be a little happier with the performance of a LT225 75 R 16 DuraTrac . If you had 15 " wheels I would suggest a 235 75 R 15 DuraTrac .
High axle ratios in the mountains = suck with oversize tires.
 
Yeah, your spare was the old discontinued MTR.

I have Duratracs on my Super Duty and they are great in the snow, but that truck is also double the weight of a TJ. I always had really good luck with BFG All Terrains on the Jeeps for snow.

I have the Moab’s and they are my favorite wheel for the TJ so I’m staying with the 16’s.

I hear you there about axle ratios.

I went from my stock steel wheels with 235/75R15 to Moab’s with 245/75R16 all season and the difference was actually nominal.

I’m just wanting the off road Duratrac’s for looks and snow!

My confusion frankly and the reason for this post is the picture of the Duratrac’s I posted above seems much less aggressive than my reference spare that came with the wheels when I bought them. (See attachment)

It’s a Wrangler MT/A 24575R16.

I run 315/75R16 Duratrac tires. They don't make that size anymore but I do have an extra set I hoarded when I saw the MT/R disappear in that size.

They're decent tires, and do well in all conditions. I'd definitely buy another set if they weren't discontinued. I had also hoped to pick up a set of MT/Rs but those were discontinued without warning.

I've had the original Duratrac (not RT) at 6000ft and up in CO for the last 6 years. The RT is a little better in snow from what I've seen. Currently deciding between Duratrac RT and TAKO3 to replace them this fall. The TJ Rubicon isn't my first choice in the snow, but the Duratracs have outperforms the TAKM and TAKOs that preceeded them. I use 285/75R16 (32.6") and am geared 4.56 with a small lift.

TJ Rubicon, 32.6, 4.56 and a small lift is my dream! ❤️

….but my TJ Sport with low gears and stock hight has been so good to me that when I do get the Rubicon my Sport will remain with me forever.

The plan is and it almost happened a few months ago is to get a low miles mostly stock Rubicon and swap everything over to the Sport that I’ll keep under wraps. That way I’ll have the mods I like on the Rubicon but can go back and forth to stock as needed.

Right now I’m just trying to get the best choice rubber for the Sport.

I think the Duratrac’s I posted at the start of this thread are the ones but I had a pause incase I’m missing something and wanted to run it by you all.
 
Duratracs are good tires. I've run both Duratracs and BFG All-Terrains on my Jeeps. They are pricey, and a bit prone to cupping, so if you get them make sure your alignment is good and you keep the pressures and rotating in check.
