I found a SYE on my local craigslist for a great deal. Picking it up from him. Seller doesn't have the driveline with it. He mentioned you can shorten a XJ front driveline (by a reputable driveline repair company) to build one on a budget. Has anyone on here done this? Any long term issues with it? What's your thoughts?

It's just a longer version of what you'll need in the rear. Make sure the SYE output flange matches the flange at the CV end of the XJ driveshaft.

I've done exactly that - pulled a front cherokee shaft and had it shortened and welded to match the length of my rear. I put it to use for over 1500 miles on the Baja peninsula when my 'better' driveshaft broke in half, and it held up long enough for me to get back to civilization, order a new one and swap it in. I'm carrying it (with new centering ball) as a spare still.
