Yukon ZIP vs ARB for Super 35

Getting quotes for a gear change and Super 35 install on my 99 TJ. Local shop is a Yukon Gear shop so they are pushing the Yukon stuff. Which is fine. I was wanting to run Revolution gears but for a the warranty and having the shop stand behind the gears Im good. My question is how does the Yukon Zip locker compare to ARB? Anyone have any real world comparisons between the two?

If it were me I'd go with the original ARB, not a knockoff.

You're right, a knock-off generally means it's a direct copy. Yukon's is definitely different.

I’ve read about early zip lockers having problems but I know two individuals who run them in Toyotas and they are both very happy with them.

Interesting video Jerry. Everything fails, it’s just a matter of when. I’ve personally split an ARB ‘60 case in four places - it looked similar to the zip locker carnage in the video.

One thing I found interesting is that the shaft on the ARB test failed at about 6500 foot pounds. That‘s crazy low. Just about any Jeep with an I6, in low range, with any kind of low gearing in the back is going to exceed that. When you do the math on my rig, it puts about 50,000 foot pounds to the axle shaft.

’Course, I‘ve broken my share of axle shafts...
