ZJ Tierod Prep

So i am planning on tackling my ZJ tierod upgrade, new drag link, steering stabilizer. I'm going to prep the Moog tierod and drag link with some rattle can black spray paint and let it dry.
Question; Do i need to clean out the "grease" that is inside the boot area ? Or would just adding more grease once i get it installed suffice ?
I assume I get everything tight and then attach the zirk fitting ?

Yep, get everything installed, torqued, then you can install the zerks and grease-r-up.

Degrease the parts with a good cleaner before shooting on the paint. Use a coat or two of self etching primer for best results. I didn't clean out the ends where the boots go, but I guess you could. Don't shoot the threads until it's all installed and adjusted, then fog them with a metal protectant. They rust pretty fast.

I taped the threads and the boots when I painted mine. Slathered the threads with anti-seize when assembling. That will keep the rust monster at bay....

I also taped up the boot areas, wiped down/de-greased the rest with rubbing alcohol, shot it with a few coats of Krylon RustTough Semi-Flat Black, and was generous with anti-seize on the adjustment threads.

I've used the same paint on pretty much everything black that I've added or cleaned up (skid, diff covers, sliders) with good results

Whoop ! Got the ZJ link in, new drag link, tie rod ends, and steering stabilizer. Steering feels so much better.

Just got mine today, will start prepping them tomorrow.

Yours look nice. I am considering the hammered paint for mine, debating that or the roll bar/chassis gloss.
