That's what you call a 'phablet'. Part phonnnnnnne part tablet. I don't want to know how much that abomination costs.

Yea, the $2K price is atrocious, but PHOOOOOONNEs always have been overpriced because all the sheeple will run out and buy one. (Pseudo-) ConVEEEEEENience at ANY price!
The one thing I'll say for it is the increase in screen real estate is an improvement for those who insist on using them in lieu of a real computer. Still too damn small, no keyboard, no mouse, brain dead OS, over priced and it spies on you - but to be fair the screen makes sense. Now at least have a fold out keyboard and you might even have something vaguely usable. Have it run OS X and you're getting better - oh, but I forget: "Apps" don't run on OS X, Windows, or Linux. Braindead software requires a braindead OS I guess.

I'd just keep mine until it turned into a brick. Who even cares anymore? What do they upgrade at this point? The camera?

Ah, yes...apps can run on linux in an emulator. It's a pain in the ass, but it works.
Yea, I know about bluestacks - and even had it installed for awhile. It was a pain in the ass just sitting there. If I ever feel the need to install it again, I'm going to sandbox it in its own user environment.
Its just pointless. Pointless to start with, and pointless to keep throwing money and attention at the thing.

Paying MSRP is silly on a phone. They'll have deals and the smart people will hardly pay anything.
Yes, but if you look at those those deals work out in the end you're really just financing it and still paying close to the full amount.

Last phone I bought only cost $200 the week it was released. MSRP was $1200. They bought an old iphone 7 we weren't using and had in a drawer at the house for $1000.
The catch is that the $1000 was applied to the bill over 3 years so if you leave early you have to pay off the balance that remains.
So if you leave 1/2 way through the 3 years you owe them the remaining $500 that they haven't credited plus 1/2 of what you paid for the phone so the remaining $100.
There's no interest involved.
No interest involved of course. But you’re still paying for the phone. They’ve just marketed it in such a way that most people think they’re getting a great deal.
That’s why the marketing guys get the big bucks. It works for most people, I get it.
I've never understood the appeal to having a folding smartphone. The regular slab I can understand but why does it need to fold? What is the advantage of the folding feature. It is cool that we figured out how to fold an LCD/oled display but what advantage does that provide other than proof we can do it?

As I said I paid $200 for the phone. The point was nobody should be paying MSRP.
The incentives on the price are to keep you on with a provider the money is all in the service packages. Luckily they keep grandfathering my plan over so it hasn't changed in 10 years or so.
The $2k price is for the entry level version.
It's not too out of line I guess since the Galaxy version is $1900.
It could make sense for someone who is constantly carrying around a phone and a tablet, since the price is about what you would pay for a good version of those together.
I would for sure want ALL the insurance on it.
