Is anyone running GenRight tube fenders with replacement GenRight inner fenders and kept the OEM intake? Not the Highline edition fenders.

I've mounted the outer so far and looked at the inner and the inners seem to reduce the space available for the OEM intake box (at least keeping it in the stock location).

Curious who may have gone this way and not gone with a cold air intake or the Ford Windstar options.

When I briefly had the non highline version I couldn't get the stock airbox to fit easily so I went with the K&N filter.

That's what I'm expecting... (n)

Not looking forward to the cold air intake system so eyeing the Windstar mods. Hopeful someone has already plodded an OEM solution otherwise I may be a Guinea pig hacking into the OEM tubing and box.

Although I don’t have genright fenders, (I have TNT), to Keep the factory filter housing I trimmed the bottom of the housing to fit.

Check this out. I wish I would have went with it. It's carb legal so that means something I'm CA. https://trailheadoffroad.com/product/wrangler-tj-lj-cowl-intake-97-06-with-pre-filter/

Thanks for the link. Looks like a similar air pull solution area (cowl) as the Windstar but puts the filter in the cowl vs engine bay. The "sock" option makes me a little more comfortable with rain vs no sock.

Will keep this on the list for consideration if the OEM box falls through.

A little JB Weld/RTV to put in some new plastic? Or just cut down the existing mounting points outside of the box?

I haven't seen anyone running it yet but I'm considering swapping myself to free up some additional room.

I trimmed out one of the three mounts.

The pre-filter should absolutely be standard. No way should anyone run without one on that style filter…

I have taken apart engines and seen broken and bent rods (and broken lower cylinder skirts) from water intrusion into the cylinders. A $20 pre-filter is fantastic insurance…

I’ve seen it done without cutting the air box on highlines but you have to undo the grill struts to change the air filter.

Got any more photos of your engine bay layout after the install you can share. I see you shifted the washer tank near the firewall that seems pretty standard. Would appreciate any pics for overall install ideas before I get into it.

I also see you have OBA which makes it more compressed within the engine bay for you. It's on my list so glad to see the new inners aren't too much to limit that option.

The windstar isnt a bad one if you dont mind the noise(granted mine is louder than most due to how I did it) pretty simple and makes plenty of room. If you end up doing it feel free to pm me if you have any questions. Although if you dont want to fab one up, the one @Alex01 posted is a great one for making space as well as being carb legal(im in CA also-havent had an issue with my windstar "yet")

Heres a pic of the intake. IIRC it was from an 03 windstar

I've ear marked a couple Windstar installs and you look like one I may have earmarked. Recall a red Jeep with a clean install...

Can you talk to the increased noise?

FWIW I'm not one to look for a quiet ride on my TJ as I'm carpet-less and roll doorless as often as the season allows (or bundled up in warm cloths when I'm feeling dumb and doorless).

Is there something specific about pulling air from the cowl that's noticable w/ or w/o doors and/or softtop/hardtop?

Its only "loud" when im full throttle at 4krpm in 2nd gear lol. It makes a decent amount of noise around 2500rpm with load on the engine. You can still talk over it, its really not that bad imo. I forget its there unless im trying to get it to scream lol. If by pulling air into the cowl with doors/hardtop: you mean performance gain? I actually have been doing tests for a while now trying to figure out if colder air effects performance or mpg for quite a while now. The answer: No gains

Nope, not expecting performance gains, good to know that's not the case. I figured the filter being outside of the engine bay may be the reason for increased sounds - thanks for the explanation on what you've experienced.

Thanks for the additional pictures. Very helpful!

I'd probably look to seal up the bottom a little more for mine as I tend to get in the mud around here and could see needing to keep the filter a little more protected for my use case. Glad to see it's not out of the realm of possible.
