Hello fellow TJ owners,
I finally threw in the towel on my Hi-Lift jack. It was mounted on the side of the Jeep and was always rusty and crusty and needed lubrication fairly regularly. I just didn't trust it to work safely in case it was needed.
So I threw down the coin on a used ARB hydraulic jack. These things are awesome, but pricey. I got a good price on this one. So I'm leaving my two hi-lift jacks in the dust and only rolling with this ARB jack now.
I'd rather not let it roll around unsecured in the tub. I have limited space in that area as I have my 38" spare mounted there so every little bit of space I can keep beneath and around the spare is at a premium. I like the idea of some kind of mount to the roll cage. The jack is about 36" long so I think I ought to be able to mount it to the left or right side of the roll cage, so that it's tucked inside the Jeep whenever the soft top or hard top is on, but also easily grab-able from outside when the top is off and I'm wheeling.
I've looked at a bunch of Quick Fist style mounts but none seem to be quite what I need. I don't want to screw the mounts into the cage. I already have a nice Bestop roll cage cover and a) I don't want to remove that, b) there's foam beneath it which can crack, and c) I don't want to drill into the cage anyway. I envisioned some kind of dual loop system which allowed me to tightly wrap the securing bracket to the roll cage, then wrap the quick-fist style straps around the ARB jack. Given it's not emergency equipment such as a fire extinguisher, etc. which would require immediate access and quick deployment, I wouldn't mind having to do undo the straps one at a time when the unit was needed.
Any ideas here? I've looked at a ton of mounts but none seem to exhibit this concept of installation.
Thank you for reading and looking forward to advice!
