Issue engaging 4 low

It’s the t-case drop causing the problem. That type of linkage can’t have much change to the pivot points. It’s just not designed for it.
Avoid 4LO until you get the cable shifter. If you need LO, reach under there and shift it by hand. Expect it to fall apart. Been there, done that. All those pieces will be hot as hell when you do it. Good times.
I can’t shift it by hand into 4LO because the the rod is hitting that piece, and won’t let it go into 4LO, so I can’t even use 4LO at all. Honestly, I won’t need it. I wheeled last weekend in 2WD and 4HI, and I don’t that much wheeling anyway. I just want it fixed in case I ever sell, or actually do need it.

He's right, its cocked bad. They make a plate that helps, but the cable takes the entire assembly out of the picture and is independent of the body to transfer case relationship- it works flawlessly when it is set up correctly. Shift into 4wd with 1 finger.

I ordered the Savvy cable shifter this afternoon. Seems simple enough to install.

Great info for my cable install. Mine shifts ok. Not great. You woulda thought Jeep could have done better job than the linkage conglomerate

As @AndyG Said to me one time, it's almost as if the engineers kept trying to make the linkage system better by adding bushings and tweaking the set-up rather than taking a step back and realizing the best course of action is to rip the whole system out and replace it with something better (cable shifter).

Everybody blames the linkage, expecting it to work flawlessly on a modified setup.
I used the AA adapter bracket to run the factory linkage for years without issue after my body lift.
I only switched to the cable to accommodate a TT. Plus I'm still having issues trying to get it set properly.

They take a little patience to dial in - Blaine explained how to adjust it well in a recent post.

@Claybirdd had to fine tune his after I installed it and got it close - he is exceptionally capable.

You could slightly bend the rod, grid the pivot, adjust the linkage the other direction or buy a cable shifter. Most people can't use a grinder or bend a steel rod so they spend the money.

I've messed with it a few times, but not lately. It goes into 4L, but not enough to turn the light on. I'm assuming this also prevents the signal from allowing me to turn the lockers on. Fortunately, I have override switches, so it's not a big deal.
However, it has occasionally popped out of gear.
Seems like I've seen more issues with the 241 setup.

My trick was to disconnect the cable , roll the actuator to 4 lo ( it will click in solidly) as a buddy holds the handle up- and then adjust the cable to to fit- that sets 4 lo with the handle up as the baseline. This worked perfect on my Rubicon. On Clays his still needed adjusted.

...it has to still be able to move the actuator all the way to 2 hi- The throw adjustment Blaine was talking about is key.

Finally got my cable shifter installed today. It’s been sitting in my garage for about a month and I finally got to it. Things are working flawlessly now.

For anyone who finds this thread in the future…. it was a pretty straight forward install. There’s no directions, but the Novak shifter is similar and those directions can be referenced, and there’s plenty of YouTube vids to watch.

  • I definitely recommend having a partner. It was much easier with 2 people than it would have been with one.
  • Take off the skid plate. I took mine off. It can be done without removing it, but I can only imagine how much harder it would have been.
