Tips on ordering a new F350

Also, if you're not going to be towing long or heavy, I'd go gas personally.

I've never owned a diesel, but I can already see the quirks:

1) Needs DEF
2) Expensive oil changes
3) Not all gas stations have diesel

If you are towing heavy or long, the pros are:

1) Larger sweeping diesel pumps that some stations have.
2) Exhaust brake to hold your load going down hill.
3) Turbo for improved performance at elevation.
You'll barely use DEF except towing. A full DEF tank is good for something like 7500 miles, not towing.

I filled mine 3 times when we drove out to the Rubicon and still had 3000 miles of DEF left once the trailer was unhooked.

DEF is annoying but it's not as bad as it seems.

It has applied the brakes dependent on how slow they are.

That's awesome. I'm really looking forward to that.

I'm driving a brand new relatively stripped down JL this week on interstates and based on this experience alone it's not fun. It has a steering issue and the gearing is terrible for mountains. Unless I ride the brakes, it keeps wanting to be in 7th going down the mountain so I'm manually putting it in 5th. If I even lightly hold the brakes it goes into 6th and holds itself just fine — they probably won't fade from how lightly they need to be held, but it just feels so wrong riding the brakes like that. I think it must be doing something with changing the timing of the engine.

You'll love the engine brake on the diesel then. Very relaxed pulling through the Rockies. Although you'll have more weight than I have pulled.

The less options and packages you order the sooner you'll get it. A stripped truck will be about 2 months, mine is estimated at 6 months out.
This is probably a stupid question, but can you bypass the package bullshit and order by line item?

For me having driven the dreaded 6.0 diesel for 3 years I have become very familiar with the complications of diesel. The expensive oil changes (5 gallons!) I deal with fine... It's the turbo, the HPOP, ipr, cac tubes, EGR, head studs, etc that is crazy expensive and troublesome. I heard the new 6.7 injectors are nearly $1k a piece. I thought my 6.0 was tough to work on hah! The 6.7 is so buried you can't even see the turbo with the hood open!

Don't get me wrong I Love the turbo diesel power but I am over the maintenance costs and yes I realize I chose like the worst diesel to maintain. The cost of education is never free. The only hauling I do is my jeep and the truck is my daily driver.

With the XL is actually quite piecemeal. That's what I'm doing, choosing only the options I like. There's still some that require a package.

My understanding is that they have to pull he cab to do many things to that diesel. I wouldn't own one out of warranty.

The 7.3 is what initially made me want a superduty.. But I couldn't help myself and had to get the diesel.

I would suspect it's the same with 6.7 except that they are pretty damn reliable so it's not very often the cab has to come off.

And didn't I read something about cruise control being bundled with a chrome bumper? Or was that something else I got confused with?
Hah ya that one too.

I love all makes, Fords rock too!
If I can't pay cash for it, it don't get bought.
Only buy what you can pay cash for is my advice, it's just not wise to throw your money away on financing a depreciating vehicle.

Well in this case vehicles are actually appreciating and cash is depreciating...

Crazy huh? But it won't stay this way, trust me.
Ya I have never bought a vehicle with financing which is exactly why I bought the Ford 6.0 which totally backfired and has been a constant drain of funds. The resell is SO good on trucks that while you do lose the financing costs the depreciation is not really much more than the maintenance in my case.

How do you like the 10 speed auto? Youtube reviews have been positive and that it does good at not constantly hunting for gears which is what i was afraid of with that many gears.

It’s fantastic, smooth as butter. Going over I-70 set the cruise at 75 and it’s 10th gear to the top if people stay out of the way. But, it’s my belief the entire truck was built around the powerstroke and the gas was just made to work with it. I’ve read more quirks with the 7.3.

Not stupid. It was the first new vehicle I've ever bought and asked a lot of questions too. Not you can't. Everything is packages. Want rain sensing windshield wipers? You also get a heated steering wheel. Want LED lights? You also get a back up camera.

Same with the Rams. I considered ordering one but found something close enough at a great price. Lots of weird options tied to packages. As for finance, if I can get money at 0% I will take as much as they want to give me.
