2004 TJ starts but slowly dies

No it seemed more like contact smoke because it was coming from the rail and not the injectors
So the o2 sensors are fixed, no codes show up, but now the jeep still doesn't start and it sounds more rough. I checked the spark plugs and they looked okay but I cleaned them and the jeep still doesn't want to keep running. It also still smells like fuel.
This is what the car sounds like now…even shifted through the gears and it still dies and smells like fuel
I had a similar problem and I had a bad connection on this distributor switch plate.

Actually, I'm going to back up and punt. If your injectors are firing full tilt you may have an ignition issue related to the ecm. Do you have a multimeter with a fast enough refresh rate to test for injector pulse?
I'll test it, however, could it just be a faulty wire? The jeep starts up and has a rough idle then dies
It could be, by your description it sounds like its dying because it's flooding. Stuck injector, grounded injector wire, etc. That could have also damaged your O2 sensors. Work the known things first, fuel pressure, injector pulse, timing, spark etc.
Sounds like major exhaust leak? How long does it have to sit before it will start again? Wonder if your catalytic converter went bad?
Hmmm never thought it could be an exhaust leak. I do have one and I believe it’s coming from the front…
It could just be an exhaust leak or could be caused be excessive back pressure. When it does start is there any exhaust coming out the tail pipe?

Not questioning @Gollywomper because exhaust back pressure can cause this symptom. However, I do question it running fine and then suddenly not because of exhaust back pressure. Seems strange unless you have a hole and filled the cat up with mud.
Just shots in the dark here. I have seen cats break internally and cause sudden symptoms similar to this. Guess the internal components broke and turned sideways.
What happens when you try to accelerate? Is there a somewhat normal amount of exhaust out of the tail pipe?
How deep was the mud or water? Any chance it got into your fuel?
I haven't been driving the car since it stopped idling. The water wasn't too deep but it could have splashed on to something. As for the exhaust it seems fine. I do smell fuel when I start the jeep and now it sounds more rough. I was wondering if maybe it's my mass air flow sensor since my jeep seems to be running rich.
Does anyone know the specs for a 2004 jeep tj coil pack should be? I'm getting in the range of 13-14 ohms when i test the pairs
