Nobody is paying $1200 for cats when they were $300 at the beginning of the year. What are some alternative options? Why are the prices so high? Plandemic? Will they ever come down?

Prices are high because of the supply chain issues (which will be going on for years) and due to the very, very high amount of catalytic converter theft that has been rampant across the US.

I figured as much. Downright ridiculous. Guess I will live with this CEL forever

Still loving my 98... One Generic Cat, one price, one hundo clears emissions every time
There must be something like this for later TJ's

I wonder if you could snatch one from a part out? If that's not the first thing to go after the doors, I'd be surprised though.

You're absolutely right with the theft issue. About 6 months ago, I went to pull a G-van into the shop and noticed the loud exhaust.
Someone cut out the cat converter, along with about 15 other converters from various other vehicles in our back lot.
A friend of mine owns an HVAC company with approx 20 vans, All of them had the cat converters cut out over a weekend.

And thefts are up because prices high! A positive feedback loop like a spike in the stock market.
Just found out an hour ago than insurance decided to total my stepson's car for a stolen cat. When I started driving it was common for people to rip them out and trash em. Boggles the mind how things change. I'll be an old curmudgeon in no time.

Funny this is, a few weeks ago one of the techs went out back to pull a vehicle in. He heard a sawzall. Upon further investigation , he found some crackhead laying under a truck cutting out the converter. The Little Falls police arrested him.

Do you suppose there is any difference between the CARB approved and non-approved converters other than the nearly three times higher price? They look the same.

that was your mistake, should of jumped in and took the truck down the highway ! he was out of jail in a hour and back under another car !
