Oregon Oregon Meet, Greet, & Wheel

You might get less people going if they are going beat a tear their rigs up.
Absolutely true. Mild to medium wheeling? At most?

How about middle of June? The kiddos will be out of school. I'm assuming this will be a family friendly event? The wife may want to go in the JKU with the grandkids.

Central Oregon pretty much has it all. Good uncluttered terrain, lots of camping areas on blm land. Great weather, close to a sizable town etc.

It looks like there are at least 4 OHV areas within 20 miles of Bend. It may be a little far north for the California folks, maybe, but there's a lot of off road opportunity out that way.

So, @Chris, got any ideas on places to meet up? It sounds like the wife is open to taking her JKU, I'll have the SE.

I've never even been down that way before... Ever. Well, I've driven though the I-5 through there, but that's it. I've never gone off the highway and explored, etc. So I'm just going to have to go by what I read / see online, etc.

I'll also have to talk to my wife about what she wants to do. We have a 5 year old and a 1 year old (though she'll be 2 by that time), so I know she doesn't like to "rough it" for too long, mostly because that 2 year old will drive her batshit crazy (and rightfully so). That being said, we may rent a nice RV and tow the Jeep behind it, that way we can have the best of both worlds. I can rough it a lot more than the kids, I'll tell you that much. Well, they could do better if they weren't so young.

If I go, I'll be bringing my RV and flat towing the jeep. Bend sounds interesting. To make it work for me, I'd likely need to take the week off for travel time and camping, so would this be a weekend thing, or longer?

The time frame, I think, should be pretty open ended. Show up when it works for you. Stay as long as makes sense and jam when you need to. If we get too organized, that may keep some people from coming out to play. Maybe have a couple of organized things and just let the rest of the time be just going with the flow. How's that sound?

I agree as well that the time can be open ended. However, it would be nice to set aside a set of weekend dates just so those few weekend days can sort of be the time that everyone is guaranteed to be there, as well as the time people can ask for work off if necessary.

When you say "OHV area", are you talking like a park with man made obstacles?
Not around here. It's just public land with a sign and a bunch of trails. Usually, but not always, the trails are rated in some way. One person's easy trail might destroy another person's rig. It's best to do a little scouting beforehand and exercise good judgement.

Edited to add: Most trails in the OHV areas can usually be navigated in a stock TJ with no damage if you have a little skill and descretion.

@Rob5589, you gotta show up. I don't want to be the only SE there. Especially since I may not have my axles done by then.

I'd love to. Going to ID to hunt and HI next yr so have to plan my pto usage carefully :D Even Bend is only about 7 hrs so not horrible. I'd tow it up since I would be bringing gear to camp.

Great.... I don't care too much for the OHV "Parks". I like the public land....Forest Service/BLM.
