Hello everyone. This is my first time posting. We recently got a 05 tj. When we got it I assumed it was at factory height. Never tried putting it in low range till we got home. Would'nt stay in low. Noticed linkage was in a bind. I ordered a drop bracket and it fixed that problem. Been debating on installing a 2.5" lift. Noticed it has rancho shocks on the front and 14" coils. Rear has different shocks not sure what brand and 8" coils. Why would some one put a bigger coil just in the front? To level it? it sits pretty level. Is that why my linkage was binding up? And how do i proceed in looking for a lift? I'm figuring the lifts i've been looking at are gonna come with the size coil I already have in the front. Correct? And currently the jeep doesn't have any big bumpers or winch. But will in the future.

I’m not sure I follow what you’re saying. The front is always going to have longer coils in the rear no matter what. That’s just the way these things are set up.
Sometimes people will put a spacer or a slightly longer coil in the front than normal to level things out.

Thanks for replying. So I've read that my jeep should have a 12" coil in the front and a 8" coil in the back. Mine has a 14" coil in the front. So the previous owner must have done that to level it I guess. Now if wanna raise it 2" all around, do i get a 16" coil for the front and a 10" coil for the back?
I put 4" on the front and 2" lift on the rear once because they sent me the wrong coils and I was to dumb to look before I installed it. Looked my jeep was about to take off like a plane

Your linkage to shift the t-case is very likely binding because you haven't yet noticed the dropped skid plate. Pics do wonders for owners that don't know what they have.
Didn't think about that. What's advantages or disadvantages of either way? If its that simple wouldn't everyone do that?

Post count has nothing to do with posting photos. That’s a user error. Maybe I need to do a YouTube tutorial on how to post photos. I should do that, I just avoided it since it’s ridiculously simple as it is.
