A few weeks ago my Jeep was in a minor fender bender (wasn't my fault and insurance is covering 100% of damage) Front passenger side fender needs to be replaced. I took it to a body shop and they gave me a quote for an aftermarket fender...I would prefer an original part but they couldn't find one.

I found someone selling 2 fenders off a yellow jeep (mine is black) privately. From what I can tell they are in decent shape. They would need to be painted black of course and I may replace the left side on mine anyway as it has some typical rust that's gotten under the paint.

They are from a 2002, mine is 97

Anything I should be looking out for? Or should I just go for it?

I haven't seen them in person, anything you guys notice from the pics that I haven't?

Also, does anyone know how realistic it is to ask for my insurance company to pay me what the body shop estimated and then just buy these parts and do it myself?

You can ask the body shop to use the used parts you provide instead of aftermarket replacements. It will be very hard to do black on your own and have it turn out well.

Let's say that is a little rust spot...still worth it? maybe buff it out before the paint?
He's charging less than a new aftermarket part that I'd still have to get paint matched. or should I not settle for anything less than immaculate...
I'm leaning towards taking them, but of course, that's why I'm on here asking?

This is not the underside, right? Looks to be the top of the wheel well inside the hood, am I wrong? I still see the top of the fender and faded plastic flare.

You want to see the inside of the wheel well where the brine, water, snow, etc coming off the tire hit the fender.

looks like that driver's fender was pushed in from the flare being hit. There is a pucker of the front leading edge, and the ripple behind the flare, both pointed out already. If you're going for straight, these could be a pass, as they will require some time to flatten out.

Damn I didn't even pick this up. It was late I transferred the photo from my phone...At this point the guy is just refusing to give me direct information saying I need to see for myself...I might take a look still but deals going sour pretty quick. Thanks for the help

They look decent. If the price is right and including the painting then I say go for it. I had to replace my drivers side fender that the PO's wife did a number on. I bought an aftermarket one from a place in Chicago. quality was pretty good. It was around $200 and change. Been in service for two years now and seems to be holding up well.
