Well, the decision has been made. EVERYTHING not needed for Off Road, is coming out. TJ will remain street legal, but this is a total removal.... Hard Top/Doors, A/C, Carpets, Dash ( swap for CJ dash ), Sway Bars, maybe the Power Steering if I find a suitable non P.S. one that fits, Etc. Roll Cage will be reinforced and Diffs will be 4.56s. Will install Air Compressor, Pressure Washing pump, Winch and Anchor, Safari Top, Bolted Tool Box, Shovel, Mattock, Bolted Cooler, Overland Awning, spare tire on board not on rear door, Jack for Dirt surface, etc. Any ideas very welcome. Will be throwing photos as I remove stuff. Project will be done slowly time permits. Final Goal, NAVY Ship gray color with markings....

How did it get rust so bad on rear rocker panel? Did it come from the North or just from ocean salt air?

Should be fun to watch this project

If you are building for actual off-road, then you might want to keep the power steering and some kind of sway bar setup.

And why add needless weight with a pressure washing pump, mattock (l don't know what that is), awning, bolted in cooler, etc. ?

A mattock is one of those combination tools so fucked up that it isn't good for either thing it was designed to replace. If you want a pick, get a fucking pick, if you want an axe, get a fucking axe, at least both of those do what they are supposed to.

Ah yes! Those are dumb and heavy.

Having driven a CJ off road without power steering I strongly suggest you keep it. Unless you have arm muscles like a MMA fighter. :)
Thanks a lot Zack, BTDT. Know the feeling of black elbows, but my Jeep will be ridden off road but lightly, not a crawler or a mud digger. My CJs NEVER had P/S, if they did, I sold them and installed non P/S ones. In place of the P/S pump we install Tire Air Compressors and Pressure Washer Pumps. Thanks anyways you tried to save my fingers and elbows, honestly thank you.

Guess I'll admit now I have loppers, a Pulaski, an axe, a cant hook and a chainsaw in my Jeep.

I trust folks have tools they figure work best for them on their trails...

I have one of these for cat holes which constitutes my sole arsenal of forestry, landscaping, and construction tools, does that count?

Hey Mac, you are wise, and respectful. I have used Mattocs all my life, not the best on neither side, but I am used to it and will do the job. Maybe I will get an Axe too, not a bad idea.

I think I will keep them stored, just in case I decide to sell the Jeep. Sway bars are for road, not for off road. Thanks for the advise.
Don't stop there. Re-gear it to 3.07's, swap a poorly geared manual trans in with a wonky clutch that only works if you don't flex the shitty frame too far and mess up the linkage, toss on a gas toilet in place of the fuel injection, and then find a 30" diameter steering wheel with a suicide knob on it. If you want the shit capability of a CJ, don't half ass it, go all ass on it. I can likely dig up some bone jarringly harsh shocks that mimic a nice leaf spring ride as well if you can't find any.

Thanks for your wisdom, I will do better than that, I may install one of this in the back of my TJ rear door as I am moving the spare tire to inside the Tub.....

I spray it with salted water in and out every day. Glad you notice, I wanted a rusted Jeep, but got this like new one from and old man who kept it stored since 2000. Watch me as I pass by the Hangar Queen Jeeps and have a big laugh about...... Why does the Jeep come with a Transfer Case and front and rear Diffs.
