TJ with 2 kids?

So my wife and I have a 11 month old baby. We adopted him last year, on Christmas Day.

We also found out that my wife is pregnant. 12 weeks along now.

My question is, how many of you have fit 2 small babies/kids into your TJ?

My son is still in a rear facing car seat. For Black Friday, we picked up a convertible seat.

So come June, I will have a 1.5 year old riding in a convertible car seat, and a 1 month old in a rear facing seat. The rear facing seat has a base, which makes it easy to take the car seat in and out of vehicles.

The current family vehicle is my wife’s 2012 grand Cherokee.

Since my daily driver is a TJ, there will be times when I will be driving the little ones around.

I’m curious on how I’m going to handle them in my TJ. Anyone have any tips/ideas?

I’d hate to have to sell the TJ and buy a JKU.

You can make it work for sure

Depending on how tall you are or if you need to move your backseat you can it’s just a matter of drilling a couple a new holes for the mount plate

My kids are no longer in seats but having 6 we’ve always found ways to make things work

It will work. You may have to be a contortionist to get them all buckled in, and put the carrier in and out of the base, but it will be fine.

I suspect you and the wife will be swapping vehicles more often A rear facing will be a pita depending on how deep it is. In my full size, extra cab Silverado the rear facing seats would bump the front seats. The separate bases while convenient, add a lot of bulk. Technically, the older one should be rear facing also until at least 2, the latest recommendation. My 5 y.o. is in a booster and it fits just o.k. in the rear seat. You are just going to have to see if you can make it work.

We have two children (19 months and 5) with two car seats in the rear. It isn’t the most comvenient, but we’ve been doing it for years.

I played around with the car seats today.

It’s definitely not ideal. But I think it might be doable.

The forward facing seat will be fine, but the rearward facing is going to restrict how far you can push the front seat back.
I have a single child seat in the back of mine, and it's way easier to put my daughter in and fasten the buckle through the back window.

I haven't looked into it yet and it might be normal, my passenger seat (Left Hand seat) slides forward and touches the dash, my drivers seat doesn't go anywhere as far.

One of our daughters just turned 5 and graduated to a booster seat, so that made things easier. Once our other daughter can be in one of those, then it will be no big deal at all.

It sucks how large kids car seats have to be.

Going topless makes it much easier. I have five. None of them require child seats in the TJ, but, just saying, topless, reach in, reach out, no problem. And yes, I have had all five in the TJ for short trips. LOL. They all wanted to be in the TJ.

My TJ is by far my most beloved vehicle I've owned " I'm old too " but back when my daughter's were young,
I could easily see it being an inconvenience.
Hat's off to you die-hard TJ owners for making it work .

So my soon to be 1 year old son has now started riding in the convertible seat. I have him riding on the driver side, rear facing. This makes it easier. I can get into the back seat, on passenger side, while holding him. And have plenty of room in the back seat to strap him in.

The problem is that when I sit in the driver seat, my knees are in the dash. Luckily, I don’t drive the TJ with him in it very far.

Here in Indiana, it’s legal to ride forward facing once you’re a year old and 23lbs.

I’m tempted to switch his convertible seat forward facing. It’ll make a lot more room for me, and him.

My 2 kids back in 2006. We did all kinds of road trips on the TJ all over the east coast. Now they are no longer kids (21 and 17) lol. My 21 year old she loves Jeeps and will eventually get my wife's JKU.

I traded my first 2002 jeep in for a subaru. Kept the Subaru and bought another 2002 jeep 6 years after selling my first one. Booster seats are way easier than trying to get a baby bucket into the back seat.

Fellow IN jeeper here as well. Where abouts are you? No kids yet, but I struggle to get groceries in this thing much less 2 kids. Good going making it work haha

Really debating taking my rear seat out and putting down a rubber mat...until I have little ones lol
