What did you do to your TJ today?

I have not heard of him. That's good to know your close if I get in over my head for someone to talk me off of the ledge :LOL:. I've been to 508 once this year, my first time offroad with the Jeep.

I actually do very little off roading, mainly just camp and fire roads. The jeeps are more of a fun top and doors off summertime fun toy than a serious off road vehicle for me.
 
I used to get failed every six months with mine always something then I started taking mine to a mechanic who also did inspections and spent 20 years working on Jeep’s….. since then no issues apart from the odd minor thing….
The mechanic says “ he understands jeeps especially the older TJ’s and CJ’s and their quirks that go along with owning in them” 😂

Yeah, there's something to be said for paying someone a few bucks to get it to pass. The problem is, now with cameras being monitored by the registry, they can't really pass on very much. an inch or so over the legal lift limit or tires you could get to fly at the right shop. Four inches of suspension, an inch of body on 35s? No way that's going to pass in Mass, and if it does, you still have to deal with being pulled over and ticketed. The cops will write you a ticket even if they're not sure it's illegal and make you prove its legal in court.

Maine isn't that far behind though they haven't started putting cameras in all of the inspection stations. Probably has to do with Maine having less then 40-50% of its population with access to high speed.

Had issues a couple of years ago buying tires for the jeep. Was told if I purchased tires more then two sizes up from stock it won't pass inspection. Mentioned that the Rubicon came with larger tires stock so we could use those. Was told no it goes off the VIN regardless of other trim packages for the vehicle. 95% of the things my vehicle has failed has had nothing to do with safety.

Finally found a jeep guy with a garage. He slaps a sticker on and tells me don't speed or get pulled over because he will tell the cops I put on the lift and tires after it was stickered.

Checked out my tps with a Simpson 260. My jeeps a bit jerky coming down hills when you give it a bit of gas to maintain speed. TPS is smooth as silk from idle to wide open throttle. What’s weird is after pulling the plug off and putting it back on the jerkyness seems to be gone. Maybe the contacts were a bit corroded.

Yes my Jeep guy found a stone chip right in the middle of my windscreen usually a fail but he said Jeeps are getting chips in the windscreen all the time so don’t worry about unless it cracks ... If a cop pulls me over tell him it happened after I got inspected 😂
 
Just finished a laundry list of work on the LJ. Was doing a tummy tuck with UCF aluminum TC skid, so decided to get a few items done at the same time.

  1. Since the new skid covers the back half of the 42RLE pan, decided to replace the transmission fluid filter and flush the fluid ahead of the skid upgrade.
  2. Removed and overhauled the NP231 since I've had the overhaul parts for about 9-1/2 years and finally had the time, space and inclination to do it.
  3. Installed another transmission fluid temperature sensor on the opposite line coming out of the transmission. Added a simple 2-pole switch so I can monitor temp before and after the coolers.
  4. Installed the new UCF TC and engine skids and reset the rear drive line angles.

Which UCF skid did you install? I have a UCF extra clearance skid and a full set of adjustable control arms to install over the winter.

What NP231 overhaul parts did you use? Was it a kit? I may be installing a SYE if I need it and was thinking I should change at least the chain while I had it all apart. I only have 130,000 miles though.

here is a better angle- it really fit pretty nicely. made a pedestal bracket which is what is supporting the reservoir under neath.

I see you can get to it fine. I have a shelf under there and I was thinking of putting an onboard compressor there. Might get a little crowded ! I like the way you did that looks cool there.

WOW ! I didn't know doing that would turn the soft top into a hard top.

I installed the extra clearance skid. Already had 1" MML and Savvy cable shifter installed. IIRC, the overhaul kit was a bit confusing to source since there are so many versions of the NP231 out there. For my '04 4.0L w/42RLE auto, I installed a Transtar overhaul bearing kit BK231J which I think should work for the 'O6, but you should confirm. While in there, you should change the filter (MOPAR 4338943). The chain is a Borg Warner Morse Hy-Vo HV027. Interestingly, I compared the old chain to the new and couldn't see a difference in length and it looked like the original chain had a lot of life left after 299,700 miles.
