1923

I'm watching and I really like it as I like Yellowstone and 1883(1883 and 1923 are offshoots of Yellowstone). The writer is involved with a couple other shows; Tulsa King and The Mayor of Kingstown Town, all good shows IMO. I watched A LOT of TV while I was on disability for two months 🤦‍♂️

I never got into any of these until I watched 1883. Isabel May the female lead is incredible. I had watched a few Yellowstone episodes. But just could not get into it. But once I watched 1883 I went back to Yellowstone. And have to say Yellowstone got way better leading into the second season. I just finished all 5 seasons.

1883 may be the best western I've ever seen. Afterwards I looked up lists of top 100 westerns and could not find a more real western.

Isabel May is so good in 1883 I actually watched the entire show again as soon as I finished. She will break your heart. She had some shitty choices thrust upon her early in her career. But I could easily see her competing for an Oscar. She did another movie "Run, Hide, Fight". For a very limited network online. I forget the name. But its hard to find unless you pay monthly for their network. She was great in that too. Not an Oscar caliber film by any means. But as the lead she was great.

I watched 1923's first 4 or 5 episodes this week. I was not expecting to like it as much as I do. But Harrison Ford makes a terrible cowboy. Fortunately his time onscreen is fairly limited. But I don't know if that carries beyond these episodes. His "country" accent just makes him sound stupid. His delivery is very slow. Whether this is age or character choice its not good. He is supposed to be a Clint Eastwood like badass leader. But just comes off like a stupid, fake, wannabe "cowpoke". Its hard to watch at times. And makes me question his acting legacy. Never hated him before. But I hate him in this. Cast opposite Helen Mirren. She is glaringly better than him. Which isn't surprising. But I suspect Ford got cast in name recognition alone. And no one bothered to hear his rendition of a cowboy. Its closer to Forest Gump than Clint Eastwood. Or he is just really really old. And its showing in his acting.

Thankfully Taylor Sheridan is a great writer. And the other story lines, characters and actors keep the show moving along. Taylor Sheridan the creator and writer of all three shows is a real cowboy. He grew up on a large cattle ranch in Texas. And is steeped in this culture. And it shows.

I'm very excited about the story line about Fords nephew. Who is still traveling the world after a life altering stint in WWI. But has been called home to the ranch.

One thing that resonates with me. As my family is Yakama Indian. Is the early storyline concerning government run, religious, reeducation schools that Indian children were forced to go to. (They recently found hundreds of unmarked graves beside these schools in Canada. It was a horrific experience for them and a very ugly chapter in US history.) Its very hard to watch. And I almost stopped watching the series over it. Maybe thats just me. Considering my family history. But the series is way worth watching. Even with the uncomfortably brutal scenes at the indian school.

All three series are very much worth watching. I think 1883 is the best western I've seen maybe ever. I had a hard time trying to find another western online that compares. There really isn't any.

Watch them in order -1883, 1923 and Yellowstone. As its more satisfying. Even though 1923 has not aired completely yet.

She is super cute, right? 🤣

Wife is into that whole series. Personally I don’t care for the back stabbing and violence. I do love the music and cinematography. We were up in Butte this summer and they were setting up the filming set downtown. The production set up cost is the same as a major motion picture. I love what the creator is doing with the mega cash he is making.
Maybe with success of Yellowstone and 1923 we will see some good Westerns coming out.
