Need LED light and 04 Rubicon intro thread

This is really great AndyG. ! Too much of the time " group think " can squeeze the fun out of building something the way YOU want to build it.
I like your Jeep , but I love the build philosophy .

AndyG just wants to be different. He's not like the other Jeep guys.

I meant to post this last night but I guess I was sort of winding down-

When I went to get this thing the old fella had kidney failure and you could tell he did not feel good and did not want to be messed with-

He was as nice as he could be but it was sort of a buy the jeep or leave me alone situation-

It took all the strength he had to sit out there and let me look at it and make sure that I got the parts that need to come with it like the factory soft top.

So Sunday night this week slept really bad and I had a dream about him and it was pretty vivid and had felt that I needed to reach out and see how he was doing- His son who has the same name texted me back and said and he passed away a few days later after I bought it- died getting dialysis-

Told me if I wanted to ever get rid of it to let him know. I will.

I really believe if I had not moved that day that I never would have been given the opportunity again to purchase that jeep- Between estate complexities and the usual family interest in things.

For some reason that makes it a little bit more special.

How are you doing? originally missed the comment about your dad and seeing this bit of bad news, can make a guy melancholia... kind of dealing with that myself and ironically my Jeep project is playing a similar roll on working through the loss.

To me its the kind of thing that bothers you at a deep level- you sort of think you’re OK but your gut tells you you’re just not yourself.

I think another thing that happens is revolving around stuff- That is sort of all you have to remember someone beyond pictures-

We just got the tenant ( I use they term loosely, she had never paid a cent) out of the house dad owned - The basement looks almost like an antique tool museum- He was a barber years ago, has a barber chair , Straight razors, you name it I could not even believe the value of some of those things when we just got to playing around looking.

I’ve come to conclusion you cannot force yourself to heal, recover or move on- you just come to grips with it and if you are smart, try to remember the laughter and fishing trips and not the hard parts.

Thanks, we all need something to get us outside of ourselves, to look forward to.

Life ain’t easy. It ends up killing about all of us, We just need to remember to live while we can, we really do.

I can totally relate, thinking your okay. Moving on gets better with time in my experience but its the moments- a thing/song/flash of thought that brings back a moment that brings back that I miss that person in my life. Thoughts and prayer for you...Cheers to a better year than last.

Cool, i’ll do some measuring

I have one idea I’ll post in a minute-

I think I see where you going, gets that round light but packaged into the opening. Those have a little bit of a Wall-E look?

Those Sylvanias are about the same price point on Amazon but you got a few iterations to in that look you posted- these little dudes are 2.1" high with out the mount.

Go for it ! unless these are total crap it fits what your after.
I know they are cheapo- but realistically some of the cheapest I've got my hands on were awesome- so much better than choices decades ago-

I may be terrible for saying this, but some of the 200-400 dollar leds are just proprietary designs, and likely no better than $20-40 dollar ones-

Now I know that is not true across-the-board- my vision X lights are ultra bright- and KC and Rigid and Baja Designs make nice products- (albeit they import a lot too)

a lot of leds are good- they give you more light for a repair, etc- off road you are barely moving any way.

It depends on what works for you. Most all LEDs are 6000K to 6500K temperature. That's that white with a hint of blue to it. I can't see with those. I CAN see with a 4500K- 5000K temp. VERY few LEDs have that. The Baja Design brand does. If I could afford them, that's what I'd be running. As it is, I run Halogens, because I can SEE with them.

Good post-

Not sure I’ve gone that deep, but yes, no see means no benefit.

I have a very good friend that works in the LED light industry (think first responder light bars and such). They are starting to break into off-road. A lot of the imported stuff will work well, for a while. They don’t handle the heat well though, and the electronic components burn out way sooner than the actually LED’s do. Failure is generally an out of spec or low tolerance resistor or some other very inexpressive component.

Just something to keep in mind, if you’re buying the lights and really need to rely on them. Kinda the same reason I’m stiff running H4 halogen beams for headlights instead of Chinese LEDs.

I can certainly believe that-

I think one thing some of us get into this we only use these things occasionally- And certainly run the lights very little of that time- And in some cases we spent so much money underneath the jeep that we start to cut corners when it comes to the optional accessories-

Are use the word optional because it seems like it’s almost obligatory to put more lights on a jeep- At the same time when you use really good headlights you have a lot of light.
