Back in the late fall, I picked up a 2000 TJ Sport. It only has 140k miles on it, and runs like a top. It had great tires, and overall had been kept up. Of course there's rust, and the frame has what I expected to see. Although the middle of each rail had been patched, the four corners were gone.
My favorite thing about this Jeep, it's a blank canvas. Nobody has ever modified anything about it, other than replacing the factory stereo.
Here it is when I drove it home:
And here's a little bit of what the fab shop found when they were digging into the rust:
Their fix should hold it together for a while:
I'll get more photos as I go along. They also rebuilt the driver's floor & torque box, so the Jeep is sitting on a firm foundation once again.
I replaced all of the suspension and steering. I didn't lift it, or go to crazy, but made sensible improvements here and there. I want to shake it down some more before I make big decisions around lifting and so on.
It is getting a communications suite. The CB is partly mounted, and GMRS will come later. And the non-ending list of other interior upgrades to come.
My last Jeep was a YJ. It was about 100% rust free, and I restored all of the mechanicals so it drives like new. Now, it's with my brother and is going to my nephew for his first car.
