Utah Official TJ Fest 2023 Thread

On the Pritchett Canyon.

Here’s the new lower area below Chewy. You have to get down there some way. This looked like the best route. It was easier for Alex and I bc we are narrower.

Jeff,
I know you've said it before but what is your outside tire to outside width? Rough guess I'm sitting at 80" now with my current setup.

Yeah, I'm pretty low priority. I appreciate the views! Any feedback about hoods or otherwise are appreciated. Lucky 13 😂.

Are you not feeling wanted? Do you need a hug?

This is Rocker Knocker. It’s a technical climb for most of us. @Starkey did it last time IIRC. Alex did it this time. No video bc I was holding a strap for safety.

Jeff said it had changed because he was able to bomb up it last time on the line you see him try first in this video.

I failed to do it. I was already really tired and my nerves were at their end. I didn’t want to flop again and my hand throttle went out on this obstacle. I had to drive home 1,000 miles the next day. Better for me to winch up, so I tried for a bit, then my nerves gave in and I succumbed. For me it was the right decision.

I had to drive home 1,000 miles the next day. Better for me to winch up, so I tried for a bit, then my nerves gave in and I succumbed. For me it was the right decision.

It's changed a LOT since I was there in 2008. Take a strap or winchline if it makes you feel better. I do sometimes. "F"em if they don't like it....

He nailed it last year. So did Chris.

From the video's I would agree. The way Jeff walked it over is how I was taught to do Rocker Knocker.

That’s how the small tire guys do it. The big tire guys tend to go straight up it but it all depends on the day.

Jeff could have possibly went right up with a slightly different line or maybe a pressure adjustment.

IIRC BleepinJeep had a video a couple years ago that they ran Pritchett with a Cherokee on a $5000 budget and I think they were able to get up it on 35’s.

Well only time will tell. We'll have to wait to see what a mid size tire can do. .... Bummed I ain't making it in June.

Might see about a fall group or just go down alone if I can get everything done. Sure I can find folks to wheel with.

Small tyre? Like 29" tall?

That's most of my videos. If I find a few others I'll post, but for now I wanted to leave you with a few things:

I learned some driving skills. When you first start wheeling you are on an exponential climb in learning, but over time things level out and learning new things is fewer and father between. I did learn 2-3 things, so I'm happy to have those in my bag of skills.

I have a view of spotting where I appreciate it, but I also know the value of a mature driver and what he is feeling on all four tires, diffs, skid plates, frame, et. al. I always know exactly what is hitting because the sounds are distinct. I am used to my rig, tire size, and know my skill level, so if I disregard your spotting or ask if I can try something, please don't be offended. This is the way I wheel. If I flop my rig, that is on me. I am stubborn too. I have always been like this.

I found my limit. I didn't know I had one. I was not comfortable on Pritchett. I wanted to enjoy it, and I did enjoy places, but I met my limit of what I am interested in doing IN THIS RIG. That does not mean that if I built another rig I wouldn't be comfortable on Pritchett. I watched a lot of rigs and came away saying, "I'm not interested in building my rig further. This platform has it's limits, and I'm not willing to drive certain obstacles in this platform that would risk a total loss." This is my daily driver. I'm completely settled with my decision. It means I can look at other options or continue to enjoy my rig as it is with the minor adjustments I will make. It can do almost any trail in the world. On that note, I want to add that the stability of Jeff's stretched LJ is pretty awesome. I loved watching every second of it, and if I were him I'd keep driving just the way he drives it.
