Can too small (2") exhaust pipe / muffler cause poor performance?

kinda what I was thinking about the cats. if removed I dont see how there's not a code being thrown. but I dont know a lot about deleting cats thats why I was asking !

You can just disable the lower o2 sensors in the PCM or use bung extenders and not suffer any real consequences. But if there's other fuckery going on it can get weird.

To address the cat delete: I am a bit under-learned about the downstream 02s. I have read conflicting opinions on this. Some say they do nothing and others say they trim fuel to keep the upstreams at the right temp and are not removable. In my case I have only the upstreams and NO CODES. I think from experience with other cars that I should weld a couple bungs on the pipe about where the were before and install some mopar 02s. Those engineers sometimes got it right,LOL(most of the time honestly)

As for the 6spd being a shit box brass synchros POS im with you....I drove an 02 5spd before i bought this one and it shifted well regardless of load/speed while this 6spd forces you drive the thing like a bread truck unless you want to feel the grind. I would not have bought the 06 but it was a semi well sorted one owner rubicon for 11k during covid price gouging( still going on) and I had been searching for so long. Drove 500 miles to get it then 500 miles through the mountains home with no issues other than an occasional grind,LOL

Also...No i did not know it had a hard limiter. Thats a good buffer for the skinny pedal. I suppose by the time im at 4500rpm it already sounds so chaotic Ive never ran it past,LOL

Im gonna check and see if the connectors are still there. Maybe there is some trickery going on or maybe they were just disabled. Is this something I can check with a basic code reader or do I need a more advanced obd2 reader?

If you want your Jeep to go fast the biggest issue with the 6 speed is you can't shift them fast. Synchros no likey. You spend half your time between gears. I love the 6 speed but that's the truth. And I think people trying to drive them like civics is why so many of the 6 speeds grind between gears.

As for this popping and banging... Makes me wonder how they did a cat delete. My 05 is catless at the moment, there's more than one way to go about it. But if your Jeep is stuck in open loop then I believe that will defeat the fuel cut on over run and you're also running too rich. That minus the cats in place equals pops and probably a slight lack of power.

When I was messing with the timing retard on over run I was able to get my TJ to shoot flames for shits and giggles. Just like those ricers lol

The plugs looked good a couple days ago. Could be rich but the plugs said otherwise. Nice dry and white ceramic with minimal soot.

I may have a unicorn but my transmission shifts pretty smooth- I put redline oil in every transmission though to help with that- but other than trying to get reverse to engage occasionally -its been good.

How many miles on yours? mine came with a clutch kit so I assume the previous owner was told he needed a clutch at some point. Maybe its time to install and see if that helps. Mine has 178k so its seen some work. Mine also misses reverse about once in 20 attempts or so.

Yes, that pipe is killing some power.

The YJs had a smaller pipe that crossed under the trans and were rated 10 HP less than the Cherokees for that reason.

The 6 speed is a truck trans and shifts just like one, slow. So, yeah, you're going to lose acceleration when shifting. I never use 1st on the road unless I'm starting on a steep hill. But I still have 31s on it.

Change the trans fluid and see if that helps. It uses synchromesh fluid.

I'm at 260K mi on the original clutch on my Rubicon.

Mine has 33s and I rarely use 1st as well. Trans fluid is new redline. My throw out bearing is making some noise but otherwise seems to hold well enough. The pipe will be 2.5" and flowing much better soon
