Hey guys! So I recently removed some old rocker panels that have been on the Jeep since before I got it and I found this awful patch of rust underneath. From what I can tell the previous owner used bondo really poorly and now it’s coming back to bite me. Any advice on how to take care of this? I was going to take it to a body shop but wasn’t sure if that’s the right course of action.
Cut out all the rust. It will have spread further than what is visible there. Replace with a bc welded in panel. Paint.
P.s. it’s likely way worse that just that spot. Rust is the debil.
You need to determine where the rust stops first. You will struggle to find a production shop that will do rust repair. My best advice is learn to weld and do the repairs yourself. Maybe post in the regional section and see if a fellow jeepers can help you out?
You need to find a reputable restoration shop, one that operates in classic and muscle cars. Avoid production/rebuild shops.
Just from that one pic, I'd guess that the entire rocker will have to be cut out, which will probably be the only way to do this correctly. It won't be cheap, so be prepared for that.
