Hi all,

I am looking at purchasing a 2005 TJ, has the 4.0 I6, I dont know the trim level. My question is, the guy selling it said that it originally had the 6 speed manual transmission in it, and for some reason he had a shop swap in a 5 speed manual.
As of right this moment I dont know which 5 speed he swapped in.
The issue is the jeep is off timing due to the crank position sensor being in the wrong location on the bell housing. (He said the shop didn't know about the crank position sensor needing to be in a specific location)
Does anyone know how easy this is to fix? Or steps I should take to help troubleshoot this or even get around it?

I know of the ax15 conversion bell housing and I have read that if you pull a newer tranny to place into a older chassis to make sure its respective flywheel goes with it and stuff so I have a general understanding of that. But if this was the NV3550 what are my options?

I have called around to about 10 off road 4x4 shops in my area and I havent gotten anywhere. Any help would be much appreciated and ill update as I get more information!

Thanks

You either need the correct conversion bellhosing or mount the CPS on the current bellhousing which would be a PITA and I personally would never get it correct.

Thank you! I'll give them a ring!

The website says it works for all 4.0's up till 2004, and this jeep is a 2005. Will it most likely work in this one or was there a big change where this bell housing wont work for my 2005?

It is the correct bellhousing

The bellhousing has both CKP locations so it’ll work for 97-04 and then it’ll work to install an ax15/nv3550 into an 05-06.

Okay, I understand now.
Do ya'll foresee any issues like if he managed to swap in the ax-5 or nv1500? I haven't heard that much mention of those two tranny's and if that would cause major issues for me?

The likeliness of swapping in either one of those transmissions is very low

Alright, new question:

The jeep is off timing because of the incorrect sensor location, but can i drive it home? or is that risking just destroying the engine?
