Crankshaft pulley

Oof, sorry to hear that, give us an update once you find out why and where the coolant was leaking! Did you remove the radiator to pull the pulley off?

Yes. I had to because the pulley kit didn’t allow room. Taking the radiator off was super easy. I’ve heard so often that people say it’s a nightmare, not for me. Everything else has been a nightmare haha

While I was in there I did a little more surgery just for peace of mind.

New thermostat
New water pump
New Idler pulley
New Belt tensioner
New coolant outlet

Ok, here is you most likely issue: You didn't get all the old gasket off the water pump or thermostat housing mating surface on the block.

2nd most likely is that the thermostat slipped out of the block recess and didn't allow the thermostat housing to seat.

3rd is your new thermostat housing is not flat and won't seal until it's trued up.

Good info.

I know I cleaned off the old gasket perfectly. I had it as smooth as a babies butt.

Fairly certain it’s door #2

Just checked the thermostat housing. That’s not it, it’s bone dry all the way around. Also dry around the water pump.

No, I have always just snugged them down with a 3/8 ratchet.

You can check the specs in the FSM which is available under Resources on the forum.

What brand water pump did you use? Lot of them are junk. Could be coming out the weep hole in the bottom of the pump housing.

Also could be a leaking hose...are you using the constant tension clamps or hose clamps?

Stick with it... you're close!

I bought a Gates water pump. Also using hose clamps. I searched and searched and couldn't find where it was coming from. I would have to take the fan and radiator out again in order to find the leak. I decided to have the shop find it for me while they are fixing the slip in 3rd gear.

They will be looking at it first thing Monday and said they will call me with what's going on. I'll keep you posted.

Well here is the update.

I had quite the mess going on.

1. Front seal was leaking like crazy. Now fixed.
2. It already has a rebuild transmission in it. At some point someone dropped the pan and messed up a few of the bolts and drilled in 2 bolts too big so it stripped the threading and made it leak like crazy from the pan. They were able to fix that as well with some sort of insert to allow threading again.
3. They are good friends with a guy in town who is the “go-to” guy for transmissions so they called him and asked what was going on because they found it was still 1 1/2 quarts low on transmission fluid but still slipping. They also found quite a bit of metal shavings in the pan.

I have it scheduled to be dropped off Tuesday for this guy to look at it.

Sounds like my experience with a transmission shop in Bend, OR. Had my AX-15 in and out seven times and finally gave up on them and bought one from Advanced Adapters.

Still have my original...all new guts...the shop's final gift was cracking the rear case.
