What gas mileage are you guys getting?

I know this is an old thread ,but how are you guys getting such bad mileage from you Jeeps ? I have a TJ 4.0 3-speed auto and I'm averaging 17-20mpg around town on a good run 21mpg . I mean could it be the climate?

is you TJ lifted and have larger tires?

Is your speedo/odo accurate? Are you calculating based on how much gas you actually pump in, or guessing by "the tank"?

Sorry if we sound a little skeptical, but well, we are.

Well since your Imperial gallons are 20% more than our US gallons of course you can go more miles on one! A vehicle that goes 15 miles on a US gallon will go 18 miles on an Imperial gallon!

Okay I didn't realize that. Yeah we get 4.5 ltrs to a gallon .. I wondered why your gas mileage was so bad, then again mine's not so brilliant šŸ¤£

I feel like my fuel gauge or odometer must be wonky. I filled up a full tank yesterday, drove 113 miles and the gauge only dropped down to a little under 3/4 of a tank. If thats about 5 gallons of a 19 gallon tank that gets me to about ~23mpg?

The fuel gauge is often pretty inaccurate. Mine will land in different spots on different days with little driving in between. The fuel light often comes on with a decent amount of fuel left too

Never try to judge gas mileage by the gauge, it's just way off. Mine's like yours, way off at the top end. It's even worse at the bottom end, with several gallons left when the gauge says "fumes". That's fine as a safety reserve, I know about it and I like it.

Stick to the gas pump and odometer numbers for calculating gas mileage.
