I have a 98 Wrangler TJ 4.0. The Jeep will crank instantly and run seemingly smooth for 2 to 3 seconds. The accelerator will respond within those seconds but still shuts if. Will never run longer than 2 to 3 seconds regardless. But easy crank start . I have 50 ish lbs of fuel pressure consistently. I have put on new battery, ECU, O2 sensors, map, mass, engine coolant, crank sensors. New plugs, distributor and cap with button. There's nothing else I can think of. I hope no one else has had the time I have had over this but if you have, please please help.

That is the typical response of an active SKIM system when the wrong key is used. Do you have SKIM? Is there a light illuminated on the dash that looks like a key in the circle with a slash?

I don't see any light on the dash like that. I bought it from a lady friend that said nothing was wrong with it other than a transmission slip. So I had it towed to my house. Won't run for me lol. Regardless everything is new that I know to replace. The key is a standard Chrysler Jeep key. The only abnormal thing that I can find is when I plug in the horn connector to the horn with the key off, the horns will blow. I know that's not normal but I can't see that affecting the ASD relay.

Pull the lower bezel off of the steering column and see if there is a module with a circular antenna around the ignition lock cylinder.

ASD fault won't let it start.

Check the grounds at the back of the grill and make sure they are there and have a screw in them. Check all the other grounds as well.

Ok, I'll check it. But the key they gave me is the one they used. I'm new to Jeeps and have never heard of the ASD before. My goodness, that circuit won't let causes a lot of guess work.

Are you saying that you swapped the ASD relay with the horn relay and when you did that the horn began blasting?

No, where the horns are mounted on the inner fender, I plugged them up to the connector and they started to blow. Even with the key in the off position. That's probably a completely different issue. Just odd.

The only code I'm getting is a P1388. So something is tripping the ASD and the vehicle shuts off after 2 or 3 seconds.
