Just bought a 2005 Rocky Mountain edition. Totally stock and plan to stay stock. Will be towing behind RV. It needs shocks. Recommendations?

I highly recommend Bilstein 5100s, I LOVE those shocks.
If it's stock height as well, that's the ones I would go with.

I'd save $25/shock and go with the newer Rancho RS5000x. It's one of the better riding shocks I've run on either of my TJs and that's quite a collection. Offroad control is superb, as good as any I've had. And last count there have been 8 shocks between my two TJs. I didn't expect the RS5000x to be as good as it turned out to be

With shocks it's all just a matter of opinion. I live the Bilstein 5100s, while others hate them. Some people like the Fox shocks but a lot of people hate them. Same with the Ranchos, some people love them, others hate them.

Hey jerry, I have a 2005 TJ wrangler X with 122,595 on it and am looking at shocks, It is a daily driver so I want something that rides smooth and I see you are recommending the Rancho RS5000X, Do you know a part number for them and would these give me a good ride? I have Cooper AT/3s 31X11.5x15 on it and they ride rough. have been airing them down trying to get a better ride and am down to about 30 lbs in each. What can I go to for a better ride as well as doing the shocks?
I can't provide a part number but at least to me, I believe they ride very well... better than I expected. They're not a soft cushy shock like the Skyjacker Hydro is so I'm not sure if you'd consider their ride "good" or not but I do like them a lot.

Hey as they say,,, yes it is a JEEP, Not supposed to ride like a Cadillac! LOL. I need to figure out if these on it now are originals or cheapos or what? They ride very harsh. They are not leaking but very rusty looking. I will look around for the Ranchos and see what I can do. Thanks Jerry.

I second this. Jerry recommend the RS5000x shocks for my TJ and I gave in and tried em. I ain't too crazy about white tube shocks but these are actually pretty damn good. They seem to be valved just right and handle rough terrain with ease.
This is coming from someone who's been running Bilstein 5100's for years. I no longer have to spend $90 a shock cuz the RS5000x are good enough.
If the trailer's tongue weight is causing your TJ to squat excessively in the rear, I'd either install a higher spring rate spring in the rear, or install a pair of air bags inside the spring that are inflated only when towing. I did that for my Cherokee years ago to tow my boat with and it worked very well. The install was pretty easy too.
