Rust at base of windshield

I knew there was some rust but when I opened up the top of the dash, but there was more than expected. How bad is it? Any suggestions for how to fix? Outside not so bad.

I have the same on my Jeep that I discovered. I intend to order a replacement frame, paint it myself and install it. My concern is the rust jumping from the frame to where it seats below. The only way to know is to fold it down and look. I've just not set the time aside to do it yet.

Pretty bad, just find a used frame on eBay or locally if you're lucky. You can always buy one from somewhere like quadratec but that's not OEM. No matter what get all new seals when changing in the new one and replace the glass if it's cracked. Mines rusting from one crack that runs right down the middle. Bumms me out every time I look at it. Even the little rust I have, it's a gonner and I'll be replacing it.

You make replacement sound easy. I thought I could patch it up somehow and move along. Whenever I think I’ve found the last bit of rust… another shows up.

Out of all the rust you could have rotting through this is definitely the easiest fix. Not super cheap but pretty easy. Just unbolt the frame, replace seals, and pop it back in. Tons of videos on YouTube doing it. eBay has em for about 200 or so for a color matched one. A quadratec one I would say would be a more in depth process. Your jeep is black so it's always an easy color to match with a can of paint. But youd have to paint and put in new glass. If your glass is good it's not to hard to do at home. Just be careful with that to. I replaced my yj frame back in the day all new glass but when it was folded down I leaned on it and cracked it before even driving it.

I just replaced my windshield frame because I had a similar rust issue. The only real fix is to find a replacement frame and paint it to match. Word of warning, make sure the frame you buy has all the mounting holes for the interior plastics, otherwise you're going to have to fab up some mounting solutions.

When I replaced my frame a few weeks ago, I was surprised at how much worse the rust was after I folded back the frame, however, there was absolutely no rust below the frame! I was super happy and credit this to the rubber seal in-between the frame and the tub.
