Looking into purchasing a 98 Sahara in good shape. Needs about 2k in repairs. We agreed on $11,500. It has 92k miles and has always been in Texas with no snow. Has some light surface rust on frame. Is this too high for what this car is? I’m new to this

A jeep place quoted me about 4K. Needs new ball joints and a steering system which is where I got the 2k from. Other repairs are smaller things here and there that I can do.
I would be negotiating the purchase price for sure!!!
I'd say that's a couple grand too high given it's in need of steering gear replacement, also a bit of a red flag that the current owner isn't maintaining it very well if he's throwing it up for sale while it's in need of maintenance.
I'd try and use the quote from the mechanic to negotiate the price way down, like at least under $10k.
It looks like a really decent jeep from the 2 pictures. I think the asking price is for a nice original sahara needing no major repairs. You need to negotiate the needed repairs into the sale price. Don't fall in love with it and overspend there are tons for sale all over the place.

First it would take a lot of work to eat up that much money so you could probably get it done for less

Show me another automatic 98 Sahara with 90k miles on it, in austin Dallas or San Antonio, that needs less than 3k of work and has a strong intact frame for under 12 thousand dollars with a hard top… I’ll wait.
Its actually not in need of maintenance. Ive been using it for city driving and the only repairs it now needs is to go 80 on the highway. This Sahara is in amazing condition. The hard top itself is worth 2 thousand dollars.
