Pinion angle

Hey guys my question is for pinion angle. About to do all 8 control arms today with adjustable control arms all around. I have a 3.25” lift, with a t-case drop at the moment until I get an sye and dc drive shaft. Since I don’t have the sye and dc do I need to disconnect the rear drive shaft and check the angle off the face of the yoke? How many degrees difference between the two is my max. Is optimal 0?

I'd install the arms one at a time, adjusting their lengths to match each existing arm and reinstalling each new control as you pull the old one off. That way you won't have to worry about the pinion angle.

Either of the two round surfaces on either side of the rear differential cover are the best points to measure the pinion angle from. When the angle indicator is rotated properly it will directly indicate the pinion angle which is exactly 90 degrees from those two surfaces.

Ok thanks Jerry. If I do need to adjust it for some reason is what I said correct about having to remove the drive shaft from the t case?

No, you don’t remove the driveshaft.

For the pinion angle put the angle finder where Jerry showed in the picture. For the driveshaft angle (when you get the DC and SYE) set the angle finder on top of the driveshaft near the pinion. The pinion angle should be 1* lower than the DC angle. Example: if your pinion angle is 22.5* your DC angle should be 23.5*.
