Hi all, so I’m planning on getting 3.5”(rock krawler) front springs and 3”(Rockjock) rear springs and have been doing research on Bilstein shocks to find the right ones and I remember on a forum that someone found a part number for some that have softer dampening. Anybody know which ones these are?

Not aware of a softer Bilstein but Rancho makes an RS7MT that is a pressurized monotube like the 5100 but has a linear piston and is known for riding softer. Unfortunately I'm coming up empty searching under the TJ. Been trying to find a list that just shows lengths and mount types so I can see if something can work even if it hasn't been identified as strictly fitting the TJ.

Skyjacker are better quality than Rancho.
If your looking for a soft ride and quality go with Fox.
Extremely happy with the JKS shocks I have now. I have played with rebuildable Bilsteins but not on a TJ. I think if you looked around at the 7100 series (or whatever their rebuildable series is now), you could get a sort of educated guess on something close to what you would want valving wise.
And if its not exactly what you want, change the valving.

That info is completely useless...I HATE the Rancho 5000x (or whatever everyone suggests). You'd have thought I punched their grammas when I mentioned that I wanted something else, because I thought they rode like garbage. Black Max have a decent ride and control...but yeah, their quality is not great. I'm running them only until I have the time available to install the tuned Fox Factory RR shocks sitting on my "parts to be installed" shelf.
They make a couple different valving options for 3.5" or so lift. One is for long arms and one is for short arms (their words, not mine). When I contacted them about it, they mentioned they were different and the long arm ones were "stiffer" due to the extra leverage the long arm has on the system...At that point, I figured they were not going to tell me the truth no matter what and I left it be. The two things are not related. BUT, they do make different valving versions for the TJ in the 5100 series, if you're inclined to experiment.

Valving numbers dont lie. It is what it is. They can tell you why what is good is good or bad. Numbers give you a direction to make things better.
Rather than I hate this so dont get it, but this is bad ass so get this. That, is truly useless. Too many variables. One size does not fit all.
What valving is in your tuned Fox's and why are they going to be awesome?

There you go. Is it good or bad? This is an opportunity. Take it.

Valving numbers are what they are.
If you dont know what you have, and you dont like where you are... numbers are important.
You don't get that this is an opportunity to show what one can do with these numbers that you want manufacturers to disclose. Do your thing.
