Will 235/75R15 tires fit on a stock TJ?

I've got a 2000 TJ Sport. I bought it used so I can't be sure but it appears to be stock. VIN decal on door frame listed tire size as 215/75/R15. 235 offers a much greater selection of tires. Friends have told me that 235's will fit just fine. However when I plug that size in while shopping online, I am advised that 235's will not fit on my 2000 TJ. Any comments, advice or thoughts are appreciated. Thanks to all.

It will fit perfectly fine and the speedometer will be approximately the same also.

Thanks Doc. I wonder why the advisement by tire manufacturer that they will not fit.

If it’s not what was the specific size that was associated with the VIN when it was purchased, it will say it won’t fit. I clear 30x9.5R15s no problem 100% stock.

I want it vice versa. Currently i have 265/70/r16, want very narrow tyres since narrower winter tyres are less expensive. Can i put it on current rims or have to buy narrower rims. By 5*114.3 alot of toyota camry and korean car steel rims can fit, but i dont know what other parameters should i look(et,central,offset).

I think thind the Camry wheels fit. The center of the wheel just needs to be wide enough to fit over the hub. Jeep wheels center on the lugs if I’m remembering correctly.

Mine rolled out of the showroom with 225-75-15. Sport editions came with 30-9.50-15 tires as an option which is very close match to 235-75-15.

The red Jeep photo above has 8” wide wheels and mine are 7” wide.

You can get Goodyear Duratrac's in 235/75R15. Load range C, 3-peak snow rated...

The posts at the beginning of this thread will likely give you the answer, but the tire's aspect ratio as well as the specs of the wheel you're mounting on could both have an effect on clearance (neither of which you noted). FYI, not all factory TJ wheels have the same specs.

Sure ,the stock tires were the 30 inch 9.50 x 15 on the ravine rims. It’s got 225/75/15 on it now. With geolander Ht on it. With about 1/2 clearance on steering at full lock.
