It’s time to re-gear and upgrade to selectable lockers.
Currently running stock 44 rear axle and 30 front axle.
Both have lunchbox lockers.
I have on the shop floor a stock TJR 44 with stock inners.
I also have an Eaton E locker that will fit either 44 axle
Assuming I’m installing all new gears and axles and upgrading to E lockers front and rear
….the question is;

Do I build the LP 30 or the 44 I already own.

If I build the 30 I could sell the 44.

Looking for opinions and advice.

TIA

Brian

For the sake of thought experiment: Both the 30 and 44 handle 35s just fine. Put 30 spline shafts and associated pieces in the Dana 30 and the only thing the 44 has over it is bigger ring gear and pinion. Selling the 44 would fund that conversion pretty easy. I guess you need to ask the question of where your going with the build. Does the marginally stronger Dana 44 gears make the difference? If you're going to push things with 37s and bashing through the trail then yeah, the 44 is the way to go to get every last bit of strength available. If your doing medium trails on 35s, selling the Dana 44 is better ROI. Just my thinking from a frugal point of view.

Problem is the E-locker i have requires the “thin” gears to work and that ad is for two sets of thick, I believe 🤔

Yup, they look like thick gears. Sorry, about that. Lots of details to work out. It was just an FYI in case they would work.

You said the Dana 30 has a lunchbox locker.

I had that and sold it for $1,300 when I swapped for a Rubicon Dana 44.

it had 4.10 and the lunchbox, so maybe that helped, but they are worth more than you think.
