Is there a source for the LJ crossmember that holds up the gas tank or do we just modify the TJ/LJ rear crossmember to fit. It wouldn’t be hard just needs to be cut to fit and boxed in on the ends.
I need to cut them out regardless to repair the rear section of the frame so I’d just rather replace them since they both have some pin holes in them.

Just buy two of the rear and customize one for the inner. Since you are doing this repair look into increasing your departure angle by trimming all that up under there. There’s a few builds/threads here somewhere that show how it’s done. Definitely requires a body lift.
Good luck. I’m about to dive in to the same project
😉

I can probably dig one up if you don't find one. I'd rather not see anyone cut up the rear one to modify unless there is no other option.

If you have one please let me know. The underside where it’s boxed in on both ends is where it rotted out.

I’m curious why you would have one. Do you remove them for something? Or are they available aftermarket?

If I was to guess I’d say someone did a back half kit or you have a frame that took a hit to the front.
I looked around the internet for a bit and couldn’t find them available, that doesn’t mean they weren’t out there at one time and now discontinued. I have to keep reminding myself these are now 20yrs old and some parts are getting a little more difficult to find.

Close, we stretch the TJ Unlimited out to much longer wheelbase fairly often. I'm not a fan of ever not moving the wheel arch to maintain the same relationship it has to the axle in stock form so the tank crossmember gets to go away.

Makes sense

I was just looking yesterday at what I have. I have two of the replacement rear frame Crossmember and we planned to make our own for the front one out of one of these.
As long as we properly reinforce should be good?

Yes, but they are not easy to source. Not sure what the options are, but cutting up two of the rear is painful but, it has to be fixed.

The “stock” rear Crossmember has a widely available. I have no source for the inner on on the LJ. So make my own is the only option unless you have more than one sitting around. But by the time you cut it out and ship to me it’ll be too much $$ I think.

I've done more than one, I just haven't been able to get to the pile yet to see what is there.

Take your time, I’ve moved on to rear axle for the time being. I need to do axle bearings and seals along with prep and paint. I got everything apart today and going to remove the bearings at work tonight, the new parts are suppose to be here tomorrow.
I have a bunch of things to occupy myself with until I get that rear section figured out.

I've got two of them like this. Unfortunately we cut the overlap tabs off, fortunately they would be easy to put back. These are cut very close to the frame which we do always with the intent to put them back into another frame if needed. Cost is shipping. We can wrap them in cardboard pretty easily.

I also looked at a rear crossmember. It doesn't have the boxed in sections on the ends. If you are going to replicate that, adding the tabs to these is much easier.

You’re a good man, Charlie Brown.

Does this mean you're not a fan of moving the rear upper spring perch back to reduce the spring curve after a lift?

That’s great! I will take one of the tank crossmembers and also if you have a good rear crossmember I’ll have one of those as well.
Let me know the cost for shipping to PA, 19426 and I will pay you whatever your preferred method is.
