Rusted bolts... need help!

So yesterday I dropped my jeep off to have the Exogate spare tire carrier added to it. Well the guy calls me this morning and tells me that he can't get the bolts out of the door hinges because they are rusted in there. He said something about he broke two of his tools trying to get it out and he didn't want to torch it because it will leave a hole in the door? Has anyone had this problem? If so, how did you get them out? I'm going to pick my jeep up in about an hour or so I can provide you with pics once I go pick it up.

Take a look at the end of this thread. If you have the painted torx bolts, they are held in with loc-tite applied at the factory. Most recommend heat to get them free. I was able to use a breaker bar and steady pressure and they came off.

I would be concerned about your installer at this point, any experienced installer would be familiar with the TJ tailgate hinges as this is a very common issue. If anyone thinks they can just pop off the tailgate then they have not done it before.

Thanks guys. @TJ4Jim I took it to the place where I got my tires from and the guy claimed he could put it on for me. I just spoke to someone and they basically said the same thing you just said. He said the guy probably has never done it before and wasn't trying to put an effort into getting it done but they know where I can take it. Thanks @jchadscud

Heat the bolts with a soldering iron inserted into the torx opening to loosen the Locktite holding them. The Locktite used on them requires heat to loosen its grip. Once hot enough the bolts should come out fairly easily. The key word being hot, not warm.

Ok, guys I got it done. @jchadscud I had used the Rugged Ridge HD Tire Carrier Mount. She's a little dirty right now as I'm waiting until the weekend to wash her.

@AltWrangler99 Yeah I had the Rugged Ridge carrier too. You’ll want to replace it with the stock carrier. Pick one up from Davey’s Jeeps.

The stock carrier drops the tire down quite a bit which clears your rear view and pulls the tire much closer to the body of the Jeep. It also makes sure the tire is resting on the snubbers which is important.

If the tire hits your bumper you can use the Exogate offset. You’ve already got it installed as the Rugged Ridge carrier won’t mount without the offset being used.
