Can I fit 33s?

I’ve got a TJ question. I have a 2005 Sport and I’m wondering what size tires I can get under here. Currently they are offset 31x10.50x15s. If you look in the picture, it appears to have a small lift on it. I’m thinking I can go to 33s.

BTW - I’m new to Jeeps, but I’ve had a slew of different 4x4s through the years.

I'd stick with 31" tires. Looks like a 2" BB (spacer lift). It would look like this with 33s. Your Jeep, your choice.

Measure the springs from perch to perch and include any spacers in there. Stock is 12" in the front, 8" in back. The amount over that is the amount of lift you have. 4" is considered the right way to do 33's in order to allow the space for the right size shocks to do their job so it rides well and doesn't damage stuff by the tires hitting fenders, etc. Could you squeeze 33's in there as it sits now? Maybe, but without addressing the other aspects, it'll probably affect the ride and could open the door to fender damage depending on use.

If you do, keep in mind there is a 33x12.5 z15 And a 33x10.5x15. obviously the skinnier tires is more tolerant of a lower lift.

33's with a 2(ish)" lift is not gonna look right. 31's or 32's max. 32's are getting harder to find, so if I were going to want to stick with same tire size (not wanting to buy multiple speedo gears or lift more in the future) I would set up and run 31's and call it a day. A shorter lift TJ on 31's looks really, really cool.

Looks should come after function.

OP, can they fit? Sure, but to do it right you open the door for many more mods. You will have limited suspension travel, will be under geared, pushing it with the stock trackbar, brakes might not be adequate.

And larger tires will find what maintenance hasn’t been kept up on quicker.

So there is a lot more to it than if they will fit or look cool.

If it isn't going to look proportional then I'm not gonna invest in 33" tires before a smaller/more effective set that I know will perform worse (than said smaller tires). Maybe I'm assumptive of other's priorities.

A 4 cylinder with factory 4.10's and 33's was evidently not fun when you're going 60 mph in 4th gear and spending 3 business days getting there, so you're not wrong there.

Thanks for all the opinions. I’ve got plenty of tread right now. I’ll just stick with them for now even though they are not aggressive enough for me. I might look into the 33x10.5s later.

Well my 2.4 also had about 75% the horsepower/torque that hits peak at a way higher RPM, so there is that. I had a 2.5" lift and 33's. That's likely half an inch more than what you have and I hated how it looked. I loved how it looked on 31's though. Obviously, the better looking (and in this case more effective) tire size is gonna be smaller than a 33, so function isn't gonna be too much of an issue unless you're running stock 3.07/3.55 gears. If you don't want to lift more, I'd keep 31's. If you're struggling at 65, you're gonna be in for a regear with any more tire.

Chris wrote up a pretty good lift guide somewhere that includes tire size recommendations. 2" I believe was 30/31" tires. It sucks because you don't know exactly how good it's gonna look until you've dropped $600 lol

I have a 3” SL and 33x10.5 and really like the look and it has done well so far. I’ve had several comments on how well it looks with the tire size.

31’s is you max tire size at that lift.

33’s will not fit.

I bought my 2005 TJR used 4-1/2 years ago. I had 4 to chose from and chose the only one done right with a 3-1/2 inch lift, 4:10 gears with 33X10.5 BFGs. The 4L handles 'em just fine. 65 mph @ 2500 RPM in 6th is the sweet spot for tarmac.
