You know I am really on fence about that. I am going to read up on that here in the Forum and make a decision. I need to save up some $ if I go that route. My wife is in graduate school so that is kinda costly. I haven't done any off roading...ever! Thus, I hope to learn from you guys. BTW- thanks for the compliment. The white Jeep is pretty rough but the Rubi is 94k miles and 1 owner. He kept it all stock and just rode on forestry service roads in North Georgia. I am so excited to have my "dream Jeep".
Kinda on the same boat as I’m a 14-year owner of a TJ and currently think of getting a second one. Rationale is to build more my current one and DD the new in close to stock form.
Welcome from South East Arizona. A Rubicon was always my Unicorn since I first read about them in 4wheel drive magazines as a rumor. Other than my '82 Scrambler, my '05 TJR is my favorite jeep. Pretty damn sweet to have two!!
That’s right! Although there is a considerable amount of Jeeps around here, there is not so much knowledge while this forum is full of it!

sure, one thing is we never leave anyone behind. you might want to get some mud tires or all-terrains when you can but we won't leave you
The LJ rubicon that is virgin is the unicorn for me, I took a copart wrecked one standard LJ and building a facsimile with lockers and atlas. The lift and shocks you choose will definitely determine capability and quality of ride. Good luck with whatever you decide.
I had a 2004 unlimited for about 3 years. It was a very comfortable jeep and very capable stock. I know that they can be made into a better machine for off road. My Scrambler could do amazing things on the Rubicon trail because of the ability of the longer frame and axle droop. In my opinion, other than turning radius, a longer jeep is better for trails. If I could switch to a unmolested Unlimited Rubicon, I would definitely jump on it.
I spent several hours in Lawrenceville...jail. They thought I was going too fast.
My best advice is to figure out the intended purpose and are you willing to spend the money. It is way cheaper and easier to buy a built Jeep that has already been modded.
They will shock you -
There is a 42” rock face at my buddy’s house - my LJR can go right up on it - you can nearly walk under it ….and then roll on and up, never touch, never spin a tire. Bad pic, me playing in the yard with my grandsons. Plan to shoot that soon.
Whatever you do you will enjoy it. This forum is where it’s at.
