Noise level if swapping hard top for soft?

03 Sahara with hard top, full doors. It came with the hard top on from PO. He said he never took it off but he gave me the soft top too.

How much noisier will it be in terms of outside noise as well as wind flaping if I swap? I already have an 01 with soft top and half doors and of course it's not exactly hush tones in there.

So, significant difference with soft top huh? That's good to know. The wife says keep the hard top on so you have one jeep with each kind. It is nice taking the one with hard top out and about. We can actually talk without yelling!

I was thinking it would be nice to open the soft top on the 03 from time to time. But I don't wanna swap the tops every time.

Take the doors off if need some air etc. I keep the hardtop on all the time, but in the minority here. Most like a soft top !!

Mine have a hardtop when I got it but my previous TJ had a soft top so I wanted a soft top again… sold my hardtop and bought a frame and soft top thinking I would drop the top more… nope!… now I’m looking for a hardtop… between the tire noise, road noise and top flapping it’s not worth the convenience too me… ymmv

You can minimize noise with a soft top by keeping the blower on but not on recycle. The positive pressure helps keep the soft top from flapping so much.

Yes. A big one. I can put a tarp on it.

I like the idea of taking the doors off alot.

Uh, it's going to be just as noisy as the 01... except there might be slightly less noise in the ear by the glass window of the full door.

Take the full doors and put them on the 01 and you'll have your answer without switching tops.

When doors off need to remove the fuse for lights. Keep that in mind.

I have a Trektop NX and half doors on year round. I like a soft top versatility.

I had a soft top. Hated it. Have a hard top now. Love it. Won't be going back to a soft top.
