What’s this rubber mouthguard looking thing by the rear of my oil pan?

I’ve been trying to find the source of a little leak from the rear of my oil pan. Previous owner states (with receipt) that the RMS was done so I’m hoping it’s just the pan gasket itself. When researching new gaskets I’ve noticed NONE of them for a 2003 have that weird rubber extrusion on the OUTSIDE of the pan. Maybe they got the year wrong? I donno. So my question is what the heck is that thing?? It looks like a rubber mouth guard!

It’s not part of the pan gasket.

It’s like a plug in the upper part of the bell housing cover and held in place by the last 2 pan bolts.

That would be part of the oil pan gasket.

You probably just need to replace the oil pan seal and you'll be fine.

I'd hold off on the RMS.

I consider that piece to be like a dust shield.
