Extremely bad body shake around 60 KMPH

Hi All,

I have a 2005 TJ done 185K km had it for 4 years now, and i having had a few frightening issues with a really bad body shake when travelling over 60kmph and suddenly needing to turn, the whole body shake and i need to stop. i have taken it to my local garage and they have changed the Rear track bar, balance rod, and cut bush, i have also had all the wheels re balanced and it just happened again. Could it be i need to change the shocks ?

any advise very welcome...

Id give this thread a read, to start to. It will get you familiar with the front end components, and what they actually do.

Thank you Ctdriver86, this Death wobble is exactly what happened... on the busy Dubai roads it was fun to try and pull into the hard shoulder!!! i will study all the info and hopefully be able to sove the issue, thanks again, so helpful.. Brgds

Agree with CTdriver86, this a great thread. Had to go through almost everything to figure it out. Here were my culprits 1) Unbalanced tires, 2) Wheels were so warped (PO used some knock off of knock offs) had to replace them, then rebalance the tires. Death wobble stopped but still had a different type of shimmy when hitting bumps, the PO lifted the Jeep 3 inches but kept OEM control arms. Threw off the caster and pinion angles just enough that required adjustable control arms to resolve. Replaced about 3 to 4 months ago, no issues since. If you have to do control arms and can't afford all 8 then go with lower on the front and upper on the back.

My mechanic said that mine was a loose steering box. He fixed it and it went away.

I have a 2005 TJ also, that I just acquired a couple months ago

I get the same shimmy/ wobble at just under 60 mph, so following this.

Need tires though as they are the original with only 21K miles on them.
