Grinding and whining sound when in reverse or drive (JK)

There is a noise when car is turned on and in park. The noise becomes a loud whining when in Reverse or Drive. In park or neutral it is the same. This noise started after I put it in 4H.

I have attached a link to the video you can hear the noise in park and then the loud whining when I shift into reverse.

That's a JK but this is the TJ forum. You'll (probably/possibly) have better luck in the JK forum, but my expert analysis lines up with IBasket; sumpin aint riiiight.

It sounds like the whine of a servo or something, but that doesn't make a ton of sense.

Sounds like my Ram when the e-brake engages and releases. I don’t think jk’s came with electric e-brakes though?

I’ve already reviewed so many posts and forums. This is the only one I found who sounded the same. It would make sense for me to ask the person who has the exact same issue for their outcome. Thx

I hear ya. It's just that this forum is 100% dedicated to a different vehicle, so your odds of getting help here is low. Also consider that the guy you're asking only made one post here. I would look for the same user on the JK forum, I'm guessing/hoping he went there and found help.

Although during my time as a JK owner I found the JK forums to be of little help. Seems like maybe it's too new a vehicle to have too many people turning their own wrenches on it just yet.

I re-watched the video and it doesn't seem to change with RPM, so I think I would get under the jeep and really try to isolate where it's coming from.

It is possible that the linkage at the transfer case is out of adjustment.

I had just installed a NOVAK shift cable on my TJ transfer case and when I tested it, it made a very similar sound.
After several adjustments, it was back to normal. No noise anymore.
